Icon7 What exactly do I have??? 2000 Civic Ex Y7/Y8 mini me

I just bought a car from this kid who said he had a Civic Ex with a stock D16Y7 engine, only upgrades were a Spectre Intake and Wicked Flow exhaust. I have had the car for a week now and so far, as much as I can tell it does have the Y7 block as he said, but I started to write down part numbers and look them up, just any numbers I could find. It has a Y8 intake manifold, ECU (P2P-A12, the tranny's a 5 speed conversion) and the Vtec Solinoid from what I can tell. Haven't quite gotten down to the gears and cam yet, but I am very curious as to if there was any work done in those areas as well. What got me curious about it in the first place was the Si cluster it had and it was an Ex. I checked the VIN numbers I could find and the block is out of another 2000 Civic Ex auto. One thing that does throw me off a little here is on the heads (I believe) there is a number P2J-1, which came back to a 99 Civic with an automatic transmission. So I guess my question here is what kind of horsepower/torque, top speed, etc. should I expect out of this thing?

It also includes Megan Racing headers, Carbon Fiber hood and wing (not currently installed (debating if I should re-install it or not), ground effects and HID headlights with carbon fiber tail lights.

Not certain of specs for tranny, compression or anything like that. Getting this detailed with a Honda is fairly new to me, but Im a fast learner and am definitely interested in finding out exactly what I have here and enjoying this Sweet Ride!!!

Thanks in advance for all your help and advice.

If it's an EX, it's a D16Y8, not a Y7. Also, you're correct that the head is a Y8 head.

On the front of the transmission, there should be a code stamped containing "S40". That's the transmission code. On the front of the block, about in the middle height-wise, and all the way over near the transmission bell housing, there should be a small flat section with your motor code cast into it. Assuming it's actually an EX, it should read D16Y8. If it's a DX/LX, it would read D16Y7. The primary difference between the Y7 and Y8 is the head - The Y7 is a non-vtec head, while the Y8 is a vtec head.

So an Ex cant have a Y7 block at all? I know that the block is out of another car. But the ECU and most other major components so far match up to a Y8... and it has Vtec. so is this in fact a mini me? If so Id be interested to find out what kind of Horses she pushes out and with the upgrades I mentioned inmy original post.

Did you look at the block stamp? If it's an EX, it should have a Y8 in it. An EX can have a Y7 block if it was swapped, but from the factory, no, it will not have a Y7.

A EX can have a D16Y7 (mine does V.V) but not stock.
The head is a Y8.
If the block says D16Y7 then you have a mini-me since everything else is pointing to Y8.
Stock the D16Y8 pushes 127hp
