1997 Accord - Wrecked - What is it worth?
My grandma's 97 4cyl Accord with 122k, handed down to my sister, wrecked by her husband. Airbags deployed. What do you think it's worth? The rear bumper cover was dragging, so I pulled it off before pics. It isn't starting now, but assuming I can get it to start what should I ask for it? Thanks.

I'm debating that right now. I know it's a bulletproof car, by my best estimate I can get it back on the road for $1000 or very presentable for about $2200.
I'm still trying to decide if it is worth it to cut my losses and just sell it as-is. My guess was to ask $1000 and take $750, but it kills me when I see what kind of miles these can rack up. My vehicles are 2 old Volvo 240's and a diesel F350, and they all are typically 500k mile cars.
Keeping the Accord seems like a smart move for what it looks like it would bring all banged up.
Thanks for your reply. Will let you know if I decide to sell parts.

That was my first inclination too, (the boneyard) until I saw what was involved in putting in airbags on this car. Even running it without them, it's going to be good transport for what the bags a windshield and a new tire would cost - at minimum.
Salvage prices are $250 to $400 and that's not going to happen.
That's basically scrap index times weight.

If you don't want to sell it for scrap and you have the room, part it out. If not you could probably sell it as a parts car for $500-700. More money in selling the parts individually, problem is do you have the room to store the car/parts in the mean time?
For example; If the headlights and housings aren't toast, I'd offer you $50 + shipping for them.

Put those pic's on your local Craig's List under auto parts and, if you're willing to hold out a week or three, I bet someone will hand you $1000 for it.
Man keep it,that engine is just getting broke in. I have the same engine in my 94 accord and it has 243000 miles on it and runs like new. Thats almost a quarter of a million miles and uses no oil and gets around 30 mpg. If you take care of them and do regular oil changes these cars will last forever.
Once the wife got a whiff of the inside, it was a no-go on keeping it (smoked in). Sold for $1000 within 2 hours of posting it on craigslist. Wonder now if I asked enough. Had about 12 emails on it immediately.
It's probably close to being true -
Headlight(s)
Hood
Front Bumper cover
Front Bumper
Turn Signal(s)
Corner Light(s)
Passenger Airbag
Driver's Airbag
SRS Module
Tire
Rear Bumper cover
Rear Bumper?
Trunk?
Taillights
Alignment
Paint
That stuff adds up quite a bit, given the car probably would sell for in good shape $3k at most it is definitely going to cost at least $2k for get all that stuff fixed up. If they went through insurance it's definitely totaled.

Don't forget that it also looks as though the frame rad support/ side rails might need to be pulled out as well. Ether that or the passenger side suspension will need some tweaking as well.
Kelly blue book = $4k resale in excellent shape...smoked in automatically drops that to Good shape.....$3500. IIRC most Insurance company coverage will write it off if damages incurred will cost over 40%-60% of cars total worth to repair.....So if it cost more than $2100 to fix they would right it off. However, you can wave that and fix it yourself if you want to cover it.
An insurance write off and a DIY guys write off limits may be different.
