Technical Name
My car got stolen by some amateur thieves, probably tweakers, this weekend and the car is a 1990 Civic EX Sedan w/ B18B1 swap. Anyways the car has bad tabs so its been sitting for about a week, i let the battery die because it is apartments and i didnt want it to get jacked. so what do the retards do after they get in and it doesnt turn over? they go get something to tow it, pop the hood, and tie some type of strap around the piece of metal that holds the hood latch, and is easily removed from the radiator support, well they towed it about 1000 feet before im assuming this strap (that more looked like a belt) broke and they gave up, left the car in the middle of the road with all 4 doors open, it got towed and i got a $300 tow bill. The worst part of all is i got sick, called in to work barely able to walk, if i woulda just went to work i would have at least ran into my car in the middle of the road and saved the tow bill. Anyways, I went to the junkyard and grabbed one of those parts off of a 90 CRX from the junkyard, $15, came home, it didnt seem to line up right, will these differ on crx's, they both have SH3 stamps, i was wondering what the technical name was for these? or if maybe they pulled my radiator support out with the ghetto tow job
you can see the broken strap on the ground.

I call it the t-bar.. or the radiator support bar.
The honda parts catalog calls it the "Bulkhead Center (Upper) Frame" for the horizontal peice, and the vertical piece is the "Bulkhead center stay".

I work at a body shop. And the answer you got is right. That t-bar bolts to your radiator core support which is not Thule sturdiest part of the car. Your new one won't fit right because your radiator core support is ****ed
I also used to be an auto body technician and a painter so yes i am giving you sound advice of how to fix this. That part is often referred to as the tie bar. Let me guess..... the tie bar is too long? Most likely what happened is when they pulled from that tie bar they actually pulled the sides (inner fenders and all) in together. no worries though, this is a pretty easy fix.... you need to go buy what is called a porta power (since you only need it for this one time go down to harbor freight) you are going to stick it on the two strongest points you can find under the hood (the closer you can get to putting it where it is bent in, the better) you then spread the front of the car apart using your tie bar as a gauge of how for to spread it. You will have to go past where the holes line up because once the metal relaxes back the tie bar will still appear too long. Keep doing this until the bar fits. BE SURE not to spread the front end apart too far as then you will have the opposite problem (the tie bar will appear too short and now the front end will need brought back together) Do this in small increments taking it farther each time until your tie bar fits.
It actually ended up looking worse then it was, i pulled off the whole front bumper and got it aligned a little better then before, fixed the headlights (the douche before me didnt have lower bolts holding the headlights in so they jiggled), got a white one you can kinda see white when its closed but i can just paint it black and fix that. thanks for the responses sorry it took so long to reply, been trying to get it tabbed again so i can whip it. But i did get some Blox LCA's and a new tow hook, also threw in a new GSR center console and bought a type r shift boot
