Need a concrete answer before I go into work and buy a set since I don't like aftermarket.

Do the lower ball joints from a 5g interchange with 4g's? Asking because you can buy the lowers for a 5g since they had a service bulletin on them and I'd rather have OEM. Only looking for answers from those with a 4g who have bought them and installed, thanks.

 

well i bought service ball joint kit from honda. i dunno if it was for a 4th or 5th gen. but i have a 4th gen and they fit perfect. btw the front and rear ball joints are the same. A lot of ppl don't know this. I think the kit i bought from honda was for the 4th gen but this was like last year. That being said im 99.9% sure the 4th and 5th gen lowers are the same.

 

just pick up the recall kit, it was for '96-'98 ludes (so 4th and 5th gen), same part # 04510-SL5-000

Well wondering because I work at the dealer and know for a fact that the TSB is for the 5th gen model and not the 4th but wanted to ask if they would fit a 4th since there is no kit listed for my year.

 

It fits, I started a big thread on prelude power about this issue. I replaced my lowers with OEbrand as well my gf's miata. Her balljoints exploded after 10,000km (6000miles) so i'm taking mine out and putting OEM's in. Honda confirmed with me that the 5g fits the 4g, and the front/rear are the same. You are safe buying them. Plus, they actually cost less than the shitty chinese OE brand ****. Fake parts are killing me lately, their prices slowly climbed higher and higher and now they cost more for a lot of items than OEM from the dealer or real aftermarket ****.

 

that's a fun fact i didn't know, i had 2 set of fronts cause my dumbass forgot i bought some like 6 months ago. i was going to sell them but looks like i'll just replace my backs now. Thanks!

 

service bulletin 99-039 states it is for 96-98 preludes and gives on part number for all VIN numbers effected by the recall.

 

^Yeah the thing is that I didn't know that the final year of the 4g was affected, thought it was 5th gen only, when I opened up TSB's for my year which is 93 it doesn't come up so I wasn't sure if they'd fit or not.
