Default Need consistant info on h22 valve lash adjustment

Ok, I have my h22a1 valve cover off and I am ready to adjust the valve lash. I went searching a little bit more for a few better pictures to make sure I am about to do it right, but I find other h22a and h22a1 write-ups with totally different instructions.

-------
Some say to use the feeler gauge between the cam and the rocker arm.

but...

The honda-tech faq page says to use the feeler gauge between the bottom of the set-screw and the top of the valve.
--------

Honda-tech faq says to use .006 intake and .008 exhaust.

but...

Other pages have different specs. Like:
"As for the H22 adjustment ,, it is the same principal,,

valve lash is

intake ...004 mm exh .006 mm
and you slide the feeler gauge under the cam lobe ."

------

And by the way...what does "intake-hi" and "intake-low" etc, mean exactly??

I am going to give it a shot following the honda-tech instructions, and as for "hi-low-whatever", I am setting both set screws at each location exactly the same. Someone please tell me if I am supposed to set them differently???!!

I will check back for answers before I crank the engine.

Here you are (FSM with H22 specs):

Page 19 is valve adjustment clearances.
Page 183 is valve adjustment procedure.

Also, here is the website to get the fsm with the h22a1 specs:
http://hondatech.info/downloads/Auto...e/Prelude%204/

Download the one for the 93 prelude.

Where did you read that? As long as your motor is an h22a1 it should be the same specs...unless this whole time I've been using a lie...

the lash adjustment in the honda service manaul reads .006-.007 intake and .007-.008 ex, the high and low is for highest and lowest setting no higher than .007 on intake and no lower than .006 same for ex. feel between the cam lobe and rocker with each cylinder at tdc use you cam marks to help start with #1 at tdc and then turn the crank counter clock wise to do cylinder 3 then 4 then 2. i just did this on my h22 and it runs 100 times smoother even stoped the chatter

ok..here is another vote for setting lash using the distance between the cam lobe and rocker. but remember, in the honda-tech faq, there is a how-to write up that says to set lash between the set-screw and the valve.....

can someone tell me which info is wrong. I was trying to get rid of a slight rattle. I set lash using the set-screw/valve distance and now it is a strong knocking....

between the cam lobe and rocker is the correct way. and intake should be 6 to 7 and exhaust is 7 to 8

Either someone corrected the DIY walkthrough on the faq page or I am going insane. Either way, I will be re-doing my adjustments after I get finished with the bottom end of the motor. Atleast this way sounds easier.

provided u got a perfect ZERO wear off almost brand new or totally brand new rocker than i'll agree. Insert ur feeler gauge between the set screw and valve pls.

Huh?? Do I understand correctly that you want me to set the valve lash between the set screw and valve??

I had already accepted the fact that I have to RE-set my valve lash using the cam/rocker measurement (after I finish the block rebuild).

erm.....if ur rocker are still in shape then i think u shudn't bother too much. From so many engines i rebuild, usually there will be a groove like wear off on the rocker surface.

Considering the worn out part is where the camlobe get in contact with the rocker,so it make no sense to me by measuring the clearance on there cos the feeler won perfectly fit onto that groove right?

so as a rules of thumbs whether it's a new engine or old engine only adjust it between the set screw and valve.just my cheap opinion.
