Default Street Turbo Questions

Hey guys, i am going to be daily driving the car, and I have some questions considering a turbo setup. Im going for around +/- 300whp.

-GT3076r
-GT28r
-GT3071r
1. I am hesitating which turbo to go for, i've been reading up on all turbos i've mentioned.. But its hard to choose which one would be the right choice xd I dont want a real fast spooling turbo due to it being a DD, preferably around +/- 4.5k rpm. I might grow in the future though

2. Is it possible to adjust the spool? (Like to higher the spool to like 4-5k) for DD

3. How will I be able to determine what manifold will fit my needs? Some dude is selling quite some turbo parts, but I lack experience to decide what to pick xD

I apologize incase there are already topics about these questions being answered, I couldnt seem to find it them

thanks in advance

thanks in advance

Check the compressor maps on the 3 and see which will be in the efficiency zone for your application

If your going to be the boosted world, knowledge would the best thing so you dont blow **** up or be unsatisfied with poor performance.

Yeah, i'd like to learn more about the turbo thing anyway.. But gottab e honest man.. Understanding these tutorials without being an englihs dude is quite hard </3 xD

So far i've found the following about GT3071r;
That if its set at 11 psi, it'll reach 10 psi at 2.9k RPM O.o,
And that its max hp is set at 385

And that the GT3076r AKA GT30r<< (true?)
That if its set at 11 psi, it'll reach 11 psi at 3,8k RPM
And that its max hp is set at 500 =P

xd

So atm im leaning towards the gt3076r? But will that be an appropriate decision? I'd like to see like full boost at around 4-5k or aint that possible?

I just saw that the GT3076R comes in 2 different A/R's.. .64 a/r and .86 a/r
But how will i be able to determine which a/r to go for?

Or do i have to check something on the engine or something?

ffs swo much ****ing stuff to learn ;>

Ok, so I should go for the .86 a/r, right? Will it fit? like it doesnt has to do with the size or something?

you want the one that spools faster not slower. make sure it fits the manifold you have designed.

most manifolds are T3.. so make sure the turbo is a t3 or t3/t4 hybrid type.

Uhmm, well I am looking for like around +/- 4.5k full boost due to it being a DD, so it'd prefer it being a lil later xd

1. If youre only looking to make 300 the gt28r would be best for best powerband...It confuses me that you want a laggy turbo and only make 300whp. Really doesnt make sense. If you want more power for the future the other two turbos would be fine.

2. If you have Boost by Gear you can slow down the boost ramp by RPM vs a MBC

3. if you want slower spool top mount should hurt the spool some. But again this isnt advisable

YOure goals are pretty confusing and questionable as they go against what most want

Why are you so set on Ball Bearing? especially with goals like laggy turbos.

Uhmm tbh I dont even know what ball bearing is I just mentioned those turbo's because I came across those 2 turbos around the forum quite alot. And they're good quality products as far as I know =P

Well about the laggy turbo situation, I'll explain.
It is going to be a daily driven car, and since I dont got a steady income (Workless n' 18 xd). I wouldnt want my car to reach full boost at like 3k rpm, because my MPG will be going down quite alot due to that

I bet people goin to flame right now >.>

^^^ agreed ive never seen anyone ask for more lag lol. once hes the price difference from a bb he will want a journal bearing. i think hes thinking the car is gonna launch off the road if the car spools early but if your foot isnt planted on the accelerator u wont even notice the turbo there. u want your turbo to spool quickly. if youre daily driving it and dont want to go fast on the road just drive normal is all.

Haha yea youre probably right. GT series turbos are ball bearing turbos. GT are also more expesive and require additional coolant lines on top of oil lines to the turbo. i Wont flame you cant say everyone else wont. Youre logic is just so off, If you are worried about saving gas then you shouldnt turbo youre car period. When youre not in boost you can maintain OEM mpg's. Just cause it lags more doesnt mean its going to save you more gas? If youre only looking to make 300whp. YOure goal should be getting to 300whp as soon as u can in the powerband. not delaying it.

My advice is keep researching. You have alot too learn.

I've got money. I just been saving up the money for couple years, so once its gone, its gone =P

And Kbouchard, I wont be flooring the car each and everyday. I just want the power to be there when I need it to be there =P And about the research, yeah i've still got loads to learn ;/.. But about the maintaining OEM mpgs when not in boost,

when you are cruising at 3.5k rpm, and your car spools at 2.5k rpm, will you also maintain normal mpg?

Your car will only spool when you want it to. It's a mix of throttle being applied/load on the car. The turbo will be spinning constantly, but that doesn't mean it will be pressurizing the engine constantly, ya dig?

Edit: Use those savings for survival until you're gainfully employed.

Alright then, but about these turbo's. What are more quality turbos i should take a look at for 300-350whp? That'll allow growth in the future

I have noticed the GT's bein quite expensive

if you want the power to be there when you need it, Then you dont want a laggy turbo...If youre happy with 300whp you will be happy with the gt28. if budget is a issue....GO with the t3/t4 50 trim.
