Easiest way to remove alternator from CRX???
Hey party people, so I just got done unhooking all the wiring & unbolting my alternator (top and bottom bolts) and it is currently free however I ran into a bigger problem, I can't get the damn thing out. I cannot pull the alternator straight out because the master cylinder is in the way and the only obvious route is blocked by the intake manifold. I was wondering if anyone has ever experiences this and if they might have a suggestion, maybe even an obvious suggestion I overlooked? I was also wondering is it possible to drop it out of the bottom? I haven't had an opportunity to get the car up to take a look from underneath but from what I can see, there's not much of a gap between the engine and the axle for me to do it but it looks the most promising. I did however notice I might be able to take the oil filter off and squeeze it through but is that really necessary? This really seems like a major design flaw and a major inconvenience. I've never had this much problem replacing an alternator.
Thoughts?

Cool. Awesome. From the looks of it it will be a very... very tight squeeze against the axle. And you're pretty positive this will work? I lost my jack stands and I'm not really looking forward to buying anymore unless I absolutely have to today.
You could jack it up and not use jackstands
I always use jackstands when going under a car
Itd be a sad day if u were wiggleing it out jack moves u die
All to save 30 40 bux :/ and plus its a good investment
And yes this is how i do it on my sohc civic

Yep, just the other day driving by an O'Reilly's parts store, saw fire trucks and ambulance in parking lot with workers trying to get a car lifted off a person. Not sure if they survived...
NEVER trust a jack! At least use something ghetto like blocks or wheels lol!
To get my alt, I simple remove my oil filter, pull alt, leave bracket on the block, and slide the alt along the rear crossmember until a space opens up to pull it through.
Edit: B20VTEC in CRX

Take your intake tube off
Stand in front of car
Get alt in right hand
Reach around and behind intake mani with left hand
Hand alt from right to left
Remove alt on pass side.
No jack stands required.

That requires bleeding the brakes after though. ^
I'm curious how you guys that do not jack the car up get the bottom alt bolt back in and lined up with the notch in the bracket without a major fight?
And to the op, what is the major inconvenience with removing the oil filter? Haha

Thanks guys. I just unbolted the bottom bracket that holds on the alternator and it slid right through the gap in the wheel well and it came right out.
Damn, I remember like 7 years ago I had to take the alternator out and we ended up taking it out through top without removing anything. It took us a long *** time but it happened. I wish someone gave us some tips on how to take the damn thing out awhile ago lol.
I recently removed mine through the top, but the car has a B-series if that makes a difference. (I remove the upper alternator mounting bracket, and I move the fuel rail over an inch or two)

I unbolted my master cylinder from the booster, moved it aside and alternator came right out. As long as you don't open up the brake lines there is no need to bleed the system.
Crx with Lsv and skunk2 manifold
My next car will be a P.O.S. Bonneville or something, you're NOT saving any money on these stupid cars. Not when you add up parts and maint.
Slide it behind the motor and out the passenger side.
No joke.
Unbolting master cylinder and lifting through top is easier though.
Just take a little care when maneuvering the hard lines.
