Default Pictorial story of my DB8 (sorry 56kers!)

Ok, so I bought this lovely little DB8 GSR from my brother, Stephan.

His wife was driving it in a bad rain storm almost 1.5 months ago, when she encountered a flooded road. The intake was stock, but 2 feet of water will kill just about any car not named Hummer (or similar high SUV). You know what happened from here, the motor **** itself, causing this:

and this

ooopsy. It also got about 2 inches of water in the interior. So, naturally, insurance to the rescue(?). They would not total the car, instead offering a repair check. He took it, and the car, to me, and collected a check for 2500 bucks from me for the car. At this point, it's a project car, and every good project car needs a good name, so I called her Noah's Ark, for her flood damage and propencity to carry lots of people.

So, I went through and bought a low milage shortblock, rebuilt it with ITR pistons, DC Sports JDM header, 12lb flywheel, ITR clutch, HK$ cam gears, B&M FPR, ghetto intake, and a test pipe.

After we rebuilt it and broke it in, we dyno'd it with the timing at 18 degrees, but made no cam gear changes.

Not too shabby considering it still has the stock exhaust, i think anyway. Car has been running now exactly 10 days. I plan on adding a AEM CAI with the bypass valve, and a RS*R exhaust to match it. Those two items, along with cam gear tuning on the dyno, should push it over 175hp and 128 tq. So, today, we slap on some H&R coilovers i bought for 400 used, and some SSR Type X wheels I had laying around for over a year now. Result:

Now all I must do is get new carpet (going with black to replace the tan), put on a rear sway bar (old one ripped subframe), add new tires soon (those are pretty worn), raise the car up a bit, intake, exhaust, tune it, and finish the stereo, then I'll be done with it and just drive it. Comments?

thanks Matt. I forgot to give thanks to him for the pictures, which he took with his digital camera, which I gave to him, so he naturally will give thanks to me for, so in short, thanks to myself for the pics, and thanks to Matt for giving them to me.

HAHAHA that is one good story!

A similar thing happened to me about a year ago, I sucked up water, only nothing bad happened because it died instantly. That is a sweet 4 door man!

Ghetto intake only begins to describe what that thing looks like

Car looks good, seems to run awesome too, considering the minimal investment. One question...did the interior get flooded too?

Make sure you post pics of your black carpet changeover...I wanna do that too.

Tom

Hey now, don't hate, I tried every POS intake I had laying around, this was the only thing I could get to work Better than no air filter - slightly

The interior got about two inches of water in it, so the carpet is ruined. My brother also spilled paint in the back seat flooboard area, so even though it doesn't smell anymore, i need to replace it. I hope to convert it over in a few weeks time, and I'll definately post pics.

Yeah, that would be a con rod, not a piston, the piston from that angle actually looks fine, the rod on the other hand

Nice job. Pinstripe...must....go.... I'd pull the mudflaps off too, personally. Those are some really nice numbers, by the way.

Which itr pistons did you use? -P73-A0's or P73-00's?

You're running dangerously lean after the 2ndaries open. What cams are in the motor?

Thanks. I would remove the pin stripes, but they are painted on. I dont have the patience, will power, or funds to do a repaint on this car when my civic is still being assembled at my shop (450+hp 2.0 GSR turbo). Mudflaps...well i dunno, one the one hand, looks cleaner no doubt...on the other hand, with them on the car stays cleaner...we'll see
