Default Power window works fine until the last 1/2 inch at the top

So my power window needs help in the last half inch to stay up. It goes up and down fine but at the top it just clicks and jumps but won't go all the way up on it's own. Is this something that can be fixed or should I just get a new regulator since they're like $30 on ebay?

And if I get one, can I swap my old motor? Or should I get one with a motor? I remember trying to swap a motor on my jetta regulator and it just falls apart and is nearly impossible.

From what I can tell this sounds exactly like a regulator, I would remove the door panel and look inside the panel for the regulator as you go up/down with the window before I blew the $30, but if you don't care buy it and hope thats it. Always a safer bet to not end up with extra parts though.

is the regulator being held by all 4 bolts? I had a similar issue and it was because 3 bolts were missing and the regulator had a lot of play to move.

You can separate the regulator from the motor I think it is a couple of screws, chances are it is the regulator. If you can get a regulator and motor together cheap then go that route.

i would also check the window channel seal (might have folded). the seal that the window sets in as it goes up and down. like others say, check the mounting of the regulator/motor. it sounds like it's binding when it gets to the top and stops.

Sounds like what mine did when the teeth on the regulator wore down and stripped out. You can purchase just the regulator or both regulator and motor for fairly cheap if you need that as well.
