d16y8 into ef std hatch... questions
So I've been doing lots of research, but I seem to be confused here. I plan on buying a d16y8 and putting it into my ef with the 4spd tranny. (just a daily so i dont care, found a cheap y8)
So i have to convert the y8 to obd1, then convert the car from dpfi to mpfi, and from obd0 to obd1 correct?
If I were to get this jumper harness, what else would i have to convert?

help me out here HT

Z6 distributor will not bolt up. If you can get the y8 distributor (96-98 model) then your set. You will also need to get an obd2 iat sensor because the y8 manifold does not have a spot for it. The y8 had the iat sensor located on the intake hose.
In order for that ecu jumper to work you will need to fully convert your car to mpfi.
Or you can get one of these:

Full plug n play conversion

Yes, you have to do the dpfi to mpfi conversion first. Then jumper harness for ecu and distributor. Use your engine harness, not the y8's if it even comes with one. Run the appropriate wires from the ecu jumper harness to vtec sol., pressure switch, ks, and O2.
sounds like i need to do more research, still completely lost.... LOL
use my engine harness? so everything on my harness (d15b1) will connect to everything on the y8? then all i have to do is use the obd0 to obd2a jumper harness to run the p2p ecu?

you cannot simply "plug" yourharness into the b series motor. some sensors wont work and such. PM me any questions you have and i will be glad to lend personal pics of my build
look. your b1 needs to be converted from DPFI to MPFI. i can guide you through it if you want as i just got through converting mine. the p2p ecu will run the y8. the p28 is for the sohc z6.

The y8 is a sohc vtec motor. Same as the z6. If you do the obd2a conversion the you will also need to add in the crank position sensor located at the oil pump. As well as add in a knock sensor. Get an obd2 cat with a secondary o2 sensor.
It is easiest and less confusing to run a p28. Which is essentially the predessesor to the y8.
OP, here is what you will need to do in a nutshell:
1. Take your stock dx harness and convert it to mpfi
2. Add in the necessary obd1 conversion components:
- distributor (I recommend the obd2a y8 distributor as the z6 will not bolt up)
- 4 wire o2 sensor
- p28 ecu
- obd0 to obd1 ecu jumper
- run vtec wiring
3. Locate a y8 intake pipe (or cut a hole to run the iat)

sounds great, that makes it all the much easier for me.
anything else that im missing?
will almost everything from my b1 harness plug up to the y8 motor?

no. your alternator will work fine (obd0 and obd1 are the same, only obd2 has a different connector).
as for injectors:
88-91 Civic/CRX (Si, HF and EX models) & 90-91 B18A1 if your injectors come form these cars then you will need a resistor box
92-00 Civic & 92-01 Integra, if your injectors came from any of these cars then you will not need a resistor box.
accord and prelude injectors will also require a resistor box

I was always told not to switch crank pulleys
Obd1 alternator.92-95 civics have the same.plug but arE 4 RIB
Also your.gonna.reuse the b1 mounts
I shaved the timing cover.a lil to make it clear the mount

OK o/p first off google dpfi to mpfi conversion. EASY to do, i've done it multiple times on friends cars.
then do this:
and do this too:
Also while you have the y8 out of the car take the time to replace water pump/timing belt on it so you don't have problems later down the road.
hopefully your y8 does come with an engine harness, so you can salvage it for the following:
Injector clips
Vtec wires
4 wire o2 sensor
fan switch
iat wires
distributor plug
as well as any plugs that will be brittle and have broken wires (like the 2 plugs under the distributor from it leaking)
As far as clutch and fly wheel is concerned, re use or purchase new a clutch and fly wheel for your transmissions year. not the motor
on your y8 intake manifold, make sure it isn't out of an automatic, the Idle air control valve is different, and uses 3 wires vs the manual 2 wire one, also the auto iacv is located on the throttle body not the back of the intake manifold as seen below

last thing, its "ghetto" but i have gotten away with un screwing the stock IAT, poking a hole into my intake coupler and tip tieing the obd0/1 to the coupler
