Newbie help
This is my first post and im already posting for help. im new here and to the honda world and hopefully someone with a little insight can help me. I recently bought a 1998 Honda Accord Lx with the v6. When i test drove it it ran beautifully. Drove it for about 3 days and then the cel light came on. I took it to advanced auto and had them run the scan and found it to be the gas cap. I changed the gas cap and it was fine for about 4 days. The other night i started it up and it was running for about 5 minutes and the cel light came on again. It didnt change how it ran or drove it was just on. I disconnected the battery and cleared the codes and it hasnt came on since, but i was just wondering what it could be? Im thinking it might be the o2 sensors but i would like a little insight on what else it could be.
Code 1456 is an EVAP fuel tank emissions leak detected.
Right off the bat I would think gas cap, but you said you already replaced that.
Did you replace it with an OEM cap or something cheap from advanced auto?
I can only speak so intelligently regarding your year Accord because I don't own one and can only offer suggestions based on what I know about my 96.
With that said, my EVAP system has a valve at the top of the tank to bleed off excess fuel vapor trapped inside the gas tank.
A leak in this valve, gas tank, or any part of the vapor line running to the charcoal canister, would cause this code.
Your EVAP system is likely to be similar, I just don't know for sure though.
Assuming the gas cap is not the issue, troubleshooting this issue could be difficult to impossible for you depending on your level of proficiency working on cars.
Additionally I have no idea what a dealer might charge for a repair because the problem isn't even clear at this point.
Good luck.
