97 prelude doesnt crank. stuck gear selector
97 prelude auto, runs great, no prior issues. drove back from store, parked it, then next morning, tried to start it. wont crank over. gear selector stuck in park. battery strong, connections good. all electrical works. head lights, brake lights, horn, windows. when key is turned on, dashboard lights go on ,except the engine and oil light are very dim. when key is turned over, the oil and engine light go out. also when the key is turned over with the headlights on, there is a very very faint draw off the battery. my thought is that if i had a large draw, i can suspect the starter? i can move the gear selector by using a screwdriver in the slot on the console, but that is not a fix. i replaced the ignition starter switch, no difference. i can still hold this part suspect, because the package i purchased it in was opened even though it was clean.. also, when key is turned on and off, i do hear audible clicks under the dash. if i missed something or should i check something again let me know. please explain cause and effect in your input. many thanks glenn
Have you already checked both your fuseboxes for blown fuses? I seem to remember reading something about dim indicator lights having to do with the ECU, but I could be wrong.
Also, do you notice the immobilizer light coming on and going off? If i'm correct, I believe it will come on, and then go off when you turn the key to the ON setting
If you wanted to, you could test your starter by running a wire straight to it's positive terminal. Obviously you wouldn't have any fuel flowing to start the car this way, but you'd be able to rule something out at least.

question, my h22 has a bad head gasket so i wanna take it out then take the head apart and do the gasket, but i wanna take the ac, water pump and alternator off before i yank the engine out
i know i gotta make sure the cams, flywheel, crank are at top dead center before i take the timing belt off to change cams and ****, but if i take the alternator belt off now do i have to turn it over by hand make sure its at tdc before i take the alternator belt off, or can i still turn it over by the crank pulley when its out of the engine bay

Sounds like the neutral safety switch is not working. It would keep you from getting out of park for sure and if its stuck in a different gear other than park or neutral it will not allow you to start the car.
