Default Trunk Dash light stays on but not light in trunk itself

yesterday i took my 2000 civic ex through the car wash and the trunk open dash light randomly turned on. the trunk was closed and i stopped to slam it but it still remained on. the light inside the trunk stays off and the trunk stays locked. i tried disconnecting the wires from the back of the latch with and the trunk dash light started flickering on and off. any help?

Just in case check the dash bulb, could be on it's way out. Sometimes those bulbs act funny when they are ready to go.

do you have to take out the cluster to get to the bulb?

Yes, but it's a fairly simple process. 5 screws and a couple pressure clips.

there is 6 screws

2 at the top of the bezel that the gauges sit behind they are at the very top
4 that are on the cluster itself 2 up top 2 on the sides ull see them than u just pull otu the cluster

there are like 4 or 5 plugs depending if u have an auto or a manual just press the little clip and pull u should be able to pull out the cluster with the wires hooked up enough to see behind to actually see where the clips are

Can't believe you guys even suggested to remove the dash bulb even when it was obviously the latch/contactor. C'mon folks...

He said he was playing with the latch first and had the same issues.

I know with the dash bulbs the do not completely burn out, but work randomly, like my bulb for the d4 in my dash will work randomly, I never got around to replace it.
