Default Speedometer Not Accurate

Tonight when I went out to my car I had one of my dash lights on so I hit the top of my dash and it came back on, but my speedo wasn't working right after. It seems to read 10MPH less then it should. There is no check engine light, but should I check for stored codes? If there is no codes should I just reset the ecu or is it when I hit the dash. I wouldn't think hitting the dash could mess up the speedo.

When Im driving the needle won't budge until im going close to 20. But it says 10.

It all started after I hit the dash so the light would come on. Could it be the VSS and just not throw a code, or is it the gauge, or solders behind the cluster.

I was planning on removing the cluster to change bulbs how can I fix this?

Most of the time, the problem with the speedometer is with the circuit board. If the cruise control still works as normal , then the problem is not with the VSS. I purchased a used board from a local salvage yard BEFORE I pulled my unit out. As I went to remove the four screws the allows the speedometer unit to be removed from the assembly, I discovered all four of the screws were loose. I believe these screws also help make up part of the electrical circuit of the board. I just tightened all the screws and reinstalled the unit.......works perfectly. Yours could be loose, or needs replacing....

Did you have the same problem? How much did you spend on the circuit board. What did you ask for at the salvage yard?

Thanks for the info about the screw because that's what my problem was too. I just went and tightened all of the screw and now it works great. The only thing is I scratched the way bottom of the circuit board, but everything still works fine.

How do you change bulbs for example the seat belt reminder light.
