Speedo Not working, Did a search... HELP!!! 1994 Civic Automatic
Ok so heres the rundown. I have a 1994 4 Door Honda Civic Automatic. Bone Stock. The Speedometer doesnt work. I have a known working VSS that I replaced it with and still nothing. I also have a known working Gauge Cluster that I replaced that with as well and still nothing. Now one thing I would like to add is that on the gauge cluster the Gear Indicator for Drive (D4) doesnt light up on either cluster (not sure if that would effect the speedometer working or not but I thought i'd add that) and on the known working Cluster the light lights up on the car it came off of. I have checked it for 12v at the plug and checked the ground for continuity. I havn't yet checked continuity between the vss harness and the plug on the cluster.
First question is does the signal go from the vss to the cluster then the ecu? or does it go from the vss to the ecu then the cluster? Just curious if I were to cut the wire at the harness of the vss and cut it at the plug on the cluster and run a fresh new wire if that would eliminate that signal wire as being bad/shorting out.
When I say I swapped out the vss, I swapped out the part that goes on top that the harness clips into. It has two bolts holding it in and there is a hole in the bottom for a small shaft to go into. Do I need to pull the lower portion out of the trans and swap that out as well to know if the vss is for sure the problem?
Sorry for the long question but I would like to get this fixed as soon as possible because I want to get the car inspected and sell it. Any help would greatly be appreciated! thanks!!
