I wonder how i'll be able to notice whether its an EJ/EK model? If I look thru Wikipedia, It doesnt even mention an EK model?

Will the VIN be something like this if its an true EK? "JHMEK4"

Help is greatly appreciated

 

Ek's are totally different. The front end headlights taillights door handles. Not hard to tell and Ek's are obd2 eg's are obd1

 

there aren't any EK's here in the US unless imported in. -Right hand drive...etc

 

All EKs, AFAIK, are RHD hatches with the exception of RHD Sedans which I've never seen in the US.

Most ppl. who throw around "EK" don't know what the f*** they're talking about. This has continued because ppl. on Honda-related web sites don't call this error out as EK is considered "cool". One could argue claiming to have something you don't makes you a poseur.

 

EK is the 96-00 civic in Japan. EKs are always hatches or sedans. There is no EK coupe anywhere in the world

In the US, 96-00 96-00 are commonly either EJ6 or EJ8.

All hatches in the U.S., to my knowledge, are EJ6

There are a few others, but for what you're asking this answers the question.

 

The 92-95 civic coupes (not sure about sedans) are ej's
The 96-00 civic coupes, hatchbacks, and sedans are ej's
The 92-95 civic hatches are either eg's and eh's I believe.

The vin# will tell you which chassis code you have:

For instance my girlfriends 92-95 civic coupe starts as 1HGEJ1 etc
My 96-00 civic coupe starts as 1HGEJ8 etc.

If you want to avoid confusion then refer to them by generation. 92-95=5th gen., 96-00=6th gen.

 

This is what I've resorted to in the years I've spent talking about hondas on forums.

 

Not all EK's are RHD, look at the EDM/UKDM models; some are LHD.
