Default Back from the Dead Tahitian Green Crx built thread

Always wanted to have a build thread but was always to busy to upload pics and whatnot. Well now I have a "built" not "build" thread because of the past tense, I moved to chicago and my built motor and painted car are sitting separately back home in a garage. I prepped the car to be painted my last month in NJ, all while I was packing, working, finishing school and prepping to compete in a crossfit competition. Needless to say its not perfect, but hey what is? Enjoy

Got the car from a fellow h-t member and he saved it from some dick head who rolled on black house paint. First thing was first had to put the interior back together. Got two extra doors, extra f+r bumpers, the works. The drivers side door i ended up using however I had to grind off all the bondo that was on there to see what lay underneath.

This is how she sits now

First started out with the basics of putting the interior back together to see what i was missing since i got it stripped. Then, took apart the front end to
Put on the dr door, put on the password jdm fenders, and relocated the battery/installed subs (the cheapo ones, nothing spectacular but got em second hand from one of my boys for practically a cheesesteak). Have a really good picture of the wood I laid down under the subs but It has weiners drawn all over it and dont want to upset the mods.

the hood of this car IS THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL PART about this vehicle. I didn't realize what I was getting myself into, and honestly did not have the extra $$ to spend on a replacement hood. I only had a few meager weeks to do things at the best of my ability, plus I'm getting a carbon fiber hood anyway, it didnt make sense for me to get my car sprayed without a hood. So I took advantage of this to work on my filler laying skills.

That black paint all over the car was horrific to get off. Not only was it super thick, but someone tried to prime the car like that would make a difference. So after sanding through thick gunked housepaint and white primer, I finally got to the OEM Paint underneath. What kills me is the OEM paint shined like a diamond underall this bull$hit.

The first sitting of the hood took 9 hours and resmoothed out both corners. after all the sanding through grits and scotch briting, I Next sprayed all of the bare metal spots with self etching primer, followed by a nice thick coat of TRISTAR 2 in 1 primer filler. Stuff was absolutely amazing. What i did next was work on the rest of the car and finish the hood last, but for consistency purposes Ill put all the hood stuff up now. Since the windsheild wiper sprayers were pushed in like someone banged them, I fiberglassed the holes and filled/blended in the area. The next few pics document my work. If anyone wants to see any more pics I seriously took photos every 20 minutes, progress after every grit, knowing that when I got to chicago I wouldnt have anything better to do then finally upload pics.

YESSIR! I'm sifting through hundreds of photos trying to make a timeline so everything makes sense and is consistent. Car was bone stock under the hood, still has ac and all (just needs a recharge). Got the car with around 220,XXX miles. After relocating the battery, I had extra piping and a filter laying around my garage so it was intake time baby!

I LEARNED THE HARD WAY... if anyone realizes they should probably buy a new hood, seriously just do it. I shouldve sold something but by the time I realized how much in the suck I was, I was too determined to go back. The weakest part about the car is the hood, which what i figure is a plus. Because Im just going to un bolt it for my carbon fiber one anyways!

Plus i hear cabon fiber hoods give you an extra second in the quarter... LOL

A few more pics of the before and a shot of it infront of my boosted coupe.. The black on the coupe is where a buddy and I cut out the quarter rust and tacked in the new piece, THE RIGHT WAY. only took about 6 hours or so, and have about 250 photos from that so If anyone has any questions or wants to see pics just ask.

LOOK AT THAT PAINT UNDER THAT BLACK HORSE$****. and one more final shot of how she sat before prep.

And prep on the pass side begins! This was the easiest side by far. A friend of mine got all the paint off before, So i could jump right in sanding. The blocking started with 100 grit, then 150, then 220, finally ending with a 320. scotch brite then prime!

Dust/Dust/Dust/ kill kill kill

I have 650 lol Ill def do my best! Im trying to resize the next group of pics now. Strip as in the paint? if you wanted to take it all off youd get aircraft stripper, otherwise just start with a grinder and 60/80 grit and go up. It all depends if you are filling un used holes and smoothing everything out

You really went from 320 to scotch brite to primer? Nothing finer? It looks better already, I don't know why someone would paint a crappy black over that color.

yeah man I stopped at 320, this is the first car I ever painted or prepped. That being said I had about 30 people say 30 different things, so I took the common thread between the 30. I weas planning on going higher then 320, but ran out of time so i primed it. I took it to the shop it was getting sprayed at and the guy said that whatever I did was fine- So i just ran with it. If i remember correctly I blocked it 320 then wetsanded

PASSENGER PRIME! Because of how my days lined up, I did it all in sections, first a quarter, then a door, then the back half of the roof, then the sun roof etc.
