How do I know if I have a CRX SI
Other than the obvious sticker on the back how else can you tell? I mean someone could have just stuck a sticker on it and called it one right? I have tried using the VIN decoders to find out and this is what i came up with JHMED9363LS
1st POSITION NATION OF ORIGIN
J = Japan
2nd POSITION MANUFACTURER
H = Honda
3rd POSITION VEHICLE TYPE
M = Passenger Car, Built in Japan
4th Thru 6th POSITION CAR LINE I ENGINE
ED9 = CRX, 1.6L
7th POSITION BODY TYPE I TRANSMISSION
3 = 3 Door Hatchback, Manual
8th POSITION GRADE, 1990-1993
6 = SiCivic3 Door
6 = HFCRX
6 = Si QRX
9th POSITION CHECK DIGIT
10th POSITION MODEL YEAR
L = 1990
11th POSITION ASSEMBLY PLANT
S = Suzuka, Japan
I guess i am confused by that 8th position, which one is the "6" referring to?Also, I checked the engine and it is a ZC... Can anyone tell me more about this car? Is there a way to know for sure that it is an SI? Is the ZC engine the standard SI engine? Also does the numbers stamped on the engine block need to match up with the rest of the VIN numbers (if they dont does that mean the engine has been swapped?)? Thanks

Crx/hf civics only the si had a sunroof. Also only the si had match colors bumpers if its still factory paint. A zc motor is jdm. Stock us si has d16a6 the si also had a diffrent transmission just to say.
Yes I have a sun roof and my entire car is black....As for the motor from what you are saying this is not the original(it was like it when i bought it)...is it good/bad that i have a zc in it now?

LOL.. a zc is a d series... There's three main zc motors. Vtec non vtec and non vtec dohc. Depending on which you have the zc block is exactly the same as the us version. Non vtec zc is the same as a d16 a6 block. The head has slightly advanced timing on the zc over a a6. Vtec zc same as a z6. The dohc is roughly the same as a early Integra motor power wise but physicly diffrent. It's the easiest dohc d series to swap into a civic. Check the head code and see what head you have. I have a zc block with an a6 head so its exactly the same as an a6.
And no that is not the original motor. Zc motors only came in Japanese hondas

Incase your not sure are the spark plugs in the front or back of the head
By code he would mean d16z6 or d15b2. Your motor only says zc.

That is incorrect.....The DOHC and SOHC ZC is a D series motor, the DOHC is the top rated horse power D series motor and has almost identical power to a B18a....but it is not more powerful than all B series.
The plugs are on the top and the cover does not say VTECH in big bold letters as i have seen in other engines.
All the crx had color matched bumpers, the Si was not different. The metal sunroof is a dead giveaway. Unless they did a roof swap, then the VIN should be accurate.
Plugs are on the back so its non vtec. If its a a6 head your running about 108 Ho 100 lb tourqe. Zc head is slightly higher because of the cam being advanced about a half tooth.
Is the intake really loud?

I am going to change the plugs, wires, cap and roter, oil, and check the timing this weekend. what should i look for to know if it is an A6 head or not? thanks
