Default CRX driveshaft problem

If anyone has any info I would be very grateful! I have a HONDA CRX VTEC 87-91 Model. I Needed to change my n/s cv gaitor as an MOT failure. I changed the gaitor myself but did not bang the cv joint on properly. I took the driveshaft off again to see what damage Ive done, the shaft is damaged where the cv joint meets!

I orderd a new shaft but it was not the same as the one I took off! It had an ABS ring on the cv joint but the grooves were not as deep as the one from off my car! i didnt think this would be a problem? can anyone give me any info about this? Also the end of the shaft that goes into the transmission was not the same either? the parts company I got the part from said I can change this bit with the one off my car? I took it to a garage and got them to change these parts over for me! I then fitted the driveshaft and took it for a drive! The abs light came on straight away! and its not driving as smooth as it should! I didnt drive it far as I dont want to do anymore damage. Would the wrong ABS ring cause this problem? I cant take the old part back as ive swapped parts over! I may have to start all over and get another driveshaft!

Please give me any advice or info you have?

I THINK THE CV JOINT THAT IS ON THE NEW SHAFT HAS A DIFFERENT RELUCTOR RING? ARE THESE EASY TO CHANGE? HAS ANYONE DONE THIS BEFORE?

You must be in the UK? The crx in the US never had ABS, but from what I understand the ABS ring is removable. If you're careful, you should be able to use your old ring. The teeth need to be the same or the system sees the wheels going different speeds. Assuming your car is a factory vtec model, you should be able to find spares that fit exactly.

yes Im in the UK! The ABS ring on my new CV joint was slightly different to the one I took off! Im going to have a go at taking the ABS ring off my old CV joint and putting it on the new one today! Is this a bad idea? should I just buy a new reluctor ring? I soaked my old joint in oil overnight so Im Hoping it will tap off quite easily, plan is to give it a good clean then heat it up on the cooker to help it expand! Thanks for your feedback! I agree with everything you've said!

Oil might help, but a little heat should do the trick. Try just heating the ring for best expansion. Then a hammer and punch around the inside should move it. Best of luck!

Ive got the old reluctor ring off! I didnt need to use any heat! I spent most of my day making a temporary vice as Ive no workbench at the moment! currently having a garage built in my back garden, the old one has been knocked down! when its done Im going to spend a bit more time on the car! will put some pics up sometime soon!

Im going to take the reluctor ring off the new CV joint tommorow(friday) then replace it with the original one! it looks as good as new now! I took my time cleaning it up! I will let you know how I get on tommorow. im going to use heat to put it back on! The oven should do the trick!

Im having a nightmare with this car! I managed to get the reluctor ring on the cv joint. I did have to use some adhesive to keep it in place. then I put the CV joint back onto the driveshaft! all seemed to go well, I Was very cofident I had put the driveshaft back into the transmission fully! and also that the Cv joint had gone on the shaft!??? After putting everything back together I took it for a drive and the ABS light came on after about 200 yards! its not driving as it should, there is a slight knocking/grinding noise! WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG??

REALLY NEED SOME ADVICE! im going to jack the front of the car up now and have it running in 1st gear to see where this noise is coming from! I will be back soon with as much info as possable, hope someone can help! kenny
