block scored during headgasket change. now what?
Doing a headgasket on a d16 and this happened somehow in the process.
Any thoughts?
Should i try it anyway? Maybe add copper spray? Or is it gunna have to be machined?

Should´nt be a big problem. From the looks of it, the scratch does´nt go all the way through to the "coolant side"...ends just before it, maybe you could use some 2k aluminium filler or something similar...Hondabond ?
The cylinders look pretty bad anyway. Clean up up good, put some JB Weld on it and file it down flat with the block, hope for the best.

Next time dont pry the head off with a screw driver lol. Naw aluminum filler and get the sanding right. Then start saving for a new block....that fix could last a week or forever who knows
maybe its worth mentioning that there is no real depth to the mark.

if i were you id just slap a new headgasket on there and hope for the best .. it honestly dont look like it will be any problems

OP, just put some copper spray on the new headgasket and install it. The spray should help fill in some of the imperfections.
I don't want to start a copper spray vs no copper spray war haha, I've tried both methods and both methods worked fine.
hylomar could work but use it sparingly. hylomar doesnt ever really solidify and if it gets in your water jacket it could cause problems with your water pump. its made for high temp, moderate pressure uses so you should be ok. just use a file and make sure you didnt cause any high spots on the blocks surface then use either copper spray or hylomar and a new gasket and hope for the best.

btw we use hylomar where i work. we use it on gas compressors worth 1/4 million dollars. should be ok for a honda....lol. also the same thing that saab uses for oil pan gasket.
