Default weight reduction - stage 1

well here it is... i took out my rear seats like i said i would... took some metal and plastic pieces off also that seemed like dead weight... i can't wait till my rear upper strut bar comes in... to the stripped accord gurus-am i doing everything right..? i am now chipping the tar away (takes a long ******* time) and hopefully will start on the carpeting at some point...

edit: not sure if car is actually faster but there sure was a slight increase in suspension and exhaust noise from inside the car..!

Nice. Is your PS, AC, and cruise removed already?

good question... i ordered a 5Zigen steering wheel recently (discontinued but i was damn lucky and found a place that had one left in stock) so when i get that installed, the cruise control is coming off... AC-i'm not too found about that idea... however, i have been thinking about the PS... maybe taking the belt off for now and see if i like how it drives... i've heard things about when you remove your entire PS system, it actually could cause potential damage to the steering wheel system... something about lack of lubrication (hehe) and heat build-up..? if i decide to keep the PS, i prolly will look into the UR Ultra SS pulley set (crank, AC, PS, and alternator)...

I heard Accords and most Hondas in general do not like the UR cranks pulleys. It seems that stock Honda cranks were used as vibration dampeners. Switching it out is supposed to lead to premature wear of the crank seal and can even destroy rods. Supposedly, AEM's setup is much better because they leave the crank pulley alone and instead focus on the Alt. and P/S pulleys. Just food for thought. Hate to see another Accord bite the dust! Good Luck!

I wasnt referring to their removal as a means to free up HP, but as a weight reduction. That was my Stage 1, the removal of my AC, PS, and Cruise Control. My stage 2 will consist of the back seat, etc.

While it is a rampant(sp?) rumor that looping a hose for the PS system to lubricate itself will supposedly shorten the steering rack's life I have yet to see one person who actually wore out the rack with this kind of setup. I have no pump or bracket i cut the lines down and capped them to keep fluid in the rack and room for it to cuirculate. Im sure the rack wont last 200k but Im sure it will last as long as I own the car.

keep the a/c, it gets hot in virginia when its summer time. if i were you, i would remove the p/s. the car feels better w/o it, and it will build up your muscles in your arm.

i know the AC is a major way to lose weight... but i'm afraid of losing the drivability since this is my one and only daily driver... what do you do when it gets really hot or cold..? and defogging the front and rear windshield..? i think the UR pullies ain't a bad idea for losing a couple pounds... i guess it's an option for those who want to keep some of that drivability as well as lose some weight...

Ultra S Street Crank (part# 0206104_)
OEM= 5lbs, 5.4oz
UR= 1lb, 5.7oz

Ultra R Race Crank (part# 030610400)
OEM= 5lbs, 5.4oz
UR= 0lbs, 13.5oz

Ultra A Accessory
Alternator
OEM= 0lbs, 12.5oz
UR= 0lbs, 4oz

Power Steering
OEM= 1lb, 2oz
UR= 0lbs, 7oz

yea-everyone else can call us sissies but no AC in VA..? now that would be some hardcore accord shiet..! how do people live without AC..? i don't use it all the time but when the weather is extreme, then i'll use it... i'm STILL debating about the PS... i'll get some opinions from the shops in the area and see if they know what they're talking about...

I think you are confused. The heat will work fine defogging the windows etc, it just wont be able to blow ice cold air anymore.

When it gets hot I open the windows enjoy the breeze

I believe the heater runs off of hot coolant that passes through your heater core.

If the AC was necessary for heat, then the compressor would run when the heater was activated, no?

haha-yea... no system for me... everyone i know who HAD a system got their shiet jacked eventually... one of my friend's little brother was a retard... he took his rear seats out of his hatch and his subs, etc., were all exposed and his shiet got jacked... hopefully i'll get to some kind of weighing station to see what the car comes out to... i'm still looking into removing the AC & PS and/or do the pulley setup... lighter racing seats and cf hood later down the road... not sure if i will get lighter rims or not-i'm kinda happy with my 5Zigen Fireballs... suspension i got tein ha, cusco front strut bar and front lower arm bar, and ingalls camber kit...

good point... i don't know anything about taking out the AC as you can see... i'm just worried about going on a date and girl wants the AC but i just off to roll the windows down instead-even though it's ******* hot outside...

If it is your Daily Driver i'd keep your AC.

I still use mine in the winter even, it defrosts your windows faster.

When/If I get my motor swap i'll prob swap in a manual steering rack and lose the A/C.

How much weight is saved by taking out the Cruise Control? I hardly use mine, except on long trips.

What manual rack will fit our cars, I thought all accords had power or power assisted steering

What rack can you use? All 92+ Ludes and 90+ Accords all had PS didnt they?

I removed my AC, PS, Cruise, all their brackets, lines, 9lb flywheel, and my stainless header is alot lighter than stock too and got a Corbeau Forza and 94 ex coupe with an H22a weighs 2810 without me in it. Stock is around 2950 isnt it? I didnt weigh each individual component after it was removed. But in total it all made a nice difference. My next step will be the back seat and removal of the sound deading tar under the carpet, some light weight wheels too.

i don't quite understand...if you wanted a lightweight car, why did you start with an accord..makes no sense to me...take a civic or integra and strip it down...stripping down an accord 100 pounds won't help much imo, a waste of time, but i guess it is all up to you , good luck with it
