i took up the carpet in my 92 hatch there is some kind of like wax gunk substance like a protector for the car was thinking about painting wondering how i get this gunky plaster out of the car to paint then lay new carpet down

Why do you want to repaint the floor and then install a new carpet over it? Sounds like a lot of work for just about nothing.

And if you're referring to the black tar looking sound deadener, you'll have to use dry ice to freeze it and a hammer/chisel to chip it off, takes a while.
