Trying to replace the igniter in a 93 Civic DX
Hi:
As the title states, I am trying (unsuccessfully) to remove the igniter in a 93 Civic. I was trying to figure out if I could do it with the dizzy still on the car or would I have to take it off?
I found a manual on here in RonJ's signature, but to effect it tells you how to test it and shows a blow up of the dizzy, but again does not tell you how to take the darn thing out.
Why am I doing this you ask? The old ROckEt Surgeon here started removing electrical parts without unhooking the negative post and voila I am in troubleshooting land.... mainly the coil and the rotor... would have been a cinch... but I digress....
Any help or photo would be appreciated because I cannot find those screws for the life of me even with the inner cover removed.... Thanks in advance

Removing the distributor from the cylinder head doesn't take much time to do. Honestly, it's safer to remove and work on it at your desk/bench.. There's less chance for losing the small screw (that holds the rotor button).
You don't have to remove the dizzy, remove the cap and rotor and unplug the igniter, then there should be two screws below where you unplugged the igniter wires from, remove those and just pull the igniter out.
Also, if you want a definite test of the ICM, take it to autozone if they have one near you. They will directly test it, if they say they can't because "its not in the book" tell them to look up a new ICM on their computer and it will tell them to download a page with the test procedures (ask me how I know all this)

The sad part about it... the autozone I go to, the guys know nothing about cars...... Every problem ends up with Seafoam in a sentence..... hesitating? Seafoam... car will not turn over seafoam ...... throwing CEL codes.... Seafoam ...... I even had to change my own battery once after the guy did not know how to remove the post in my truck and he wanted to charge me a rental fee for using the tools he had to do his job......
Its easier for me to swap it out..... LOL
I will try it when I get home and let you guys know how it goes....
