Post buying used garret turbo

im buying a almost complete turbo kit. with intercooler piping, bov, exhaust manifold cast iron type, and a garret t3t4 turbo. how do i know if the turbo is a knockoff garret turbo t3t4 and how do i test if its still good. the kit dont come with oil lines feed, downpipe, do i have to custom or does ebay universial fit with this turbo etc. about 400 buks.
is garret turbos legitimate? more concerned about the turbo

Get pics. Check for shaft play.

^^ Agreed. Check side-to-side and in-and-out shaft play. A LITTLE side to side is normal, as long as the fins of the wheel doesn't contact the housing.

He doesn't have the turbo yet. Some guy is trying to sell a kit.

still., get pics. the shaft play is of course something to test, but some of these "kits" have fabbed up parts using factory turbos that do indeed say garrett but may be horribly mis sized for his application.

He's obviously seen it. I hope so anyway. If he has he can snap a pic. If he hasn't seen it then how does he know it's got Garrett on the housing?
