Default Thoughts on eBay parts

I couldn't find a thread on this. So I'm starting my own.

Obviously there are people who buy parts off eBay. I know I wouldn't buy important main components like piston heads or coilovers from a knock off company. But more on the lines of suspension easy bolt-ons cosmetic parts ect..

If I can save a few bucks for the parts that mean something shouldn't I take advantage of it. I really wish this was a sticky. Cuz alot of people would love a list of good parts at low cost.

Bro you're gonna get haters on this one, but I built my old coupe completely from ebay... It ran hard, and I had it boosted for two years before it got stolen, smh...

Some of the stuff was name brand, like my JRC intercooler Blitz BOV, RC injectors, etc.. But it was used or seriously discounted... For my complete setup from injectors to exhaust, I spend $785 bucks... But anyways, GL on whatever you decide..

If you buy crappy no name parts on ebay...you will get what you pay for. However, there are plenty of name brand parts found on ebay. Cosmetic parts are a hit/miss ordeal so there's no real guarantee on reliability or fitment.

There are no cheap parts that are good parts.
If you're contemplating Ebay no-name parts then that means you're broke and are looking for something that might somehow be decent for the price. There isn't much past a header, intake pipe and radiators.

You'll buy the other stuff like coilovers because you think a spring is just a spring. After you've spent a couple hundred bucks you'll realize like most of us that these kinds of parts are wastes of money and you'll actually save up for the better stuff.

So my advice is; buy that crap stuff, see that we were trying to tell you the truth all along and kick yourself for wasting all that time, effort and money.

Now if you actually don't care then you wouldn't have posted this in the first place. And if you think someone's going to sticky this then I want some of what you're smoking.

So you're saying that if I fab up my own turbo piping, it wont be as good as those shiny ones found on Greddy kits? Please find a better "assumption line".

To be honest I don't care about the haters. Alot of people have cheap eBay stuff mainly cosmetic stuff like wings and lips. I'm just saying some stuff on eBay u can get is name brand stuff and worth if but some people actually look and think about buying and cuz it's from eBay it dissuades them from them purchasing it.

Food for thought:

Nrg deep steering wheel: $119.99

Knock off eBay: $26.95

I use ebay alot but I only buy name brand stuff. It will cost more when you have to buy the same part twice because the knock off broke or doesn't fit. I know must of us would prefer to be able to buy everything all at once so it is obvious progress but take your time do the research and you will be happier with they way thing turn out.

And a steering wheel is not something you want to go cheap. Steering wheels are meant to collapse in an accident and alot of R&R is done to insure it folds where it should. I would hate for the steering wheel to break and then Im impaled on the spoke of the wheel

I've had both styles of those and trust me you can tell the difference in those steering wheels... Especially the quick release ones, I had a shitty cheap one come off while I was doing 80 on Alligator Alley in S. Florida... NRG wouldn't dare come off that easy.. IJS, it's hit or miss I agree but at the same token, chinese parts are chinese parts...

And the quality of that steering wheel is probably terrible. The stupid ebay wheel I got on mine (picked up the NRG disconnect and steering wheel for 15$ at the junk yard), is terrible, the "leather" wrap is coming off, the stitching is falling apart, and the steering wheel is not "stiff".

You can get away with some things, certain catch cans, air intakes, SOME cosmetic things(a lot of fitment issues). I'm building my motor right now, and I'm buying most of my parts on ebay (minus internals etc), but I'm still getting name brand parts. Moroso oil pan - 115 shipped brand new, Gates timing belt brand new - 85 shipped, you get the idea. There's deals, just gotta find them.

I agree with the above. The difference in the crap I had to re-rice when I bought this thing 5 years ago, and the quality stuff I replaced it with is noticeably of better quality. When you run that lesser crap it let's everyone know that you do not respect your car, will cut corners just to save a buck, let's everyone know how cheap you are, and will pass this crap on to the next unsuspecting sucker that buys your car that doesn't know any better.

But in reality this isn't even remotely a tech thread.

Like yes I know I wouldn't dare buy something that is an important part. I'm not going out and buying a no name turbo off eBay and trying to push 20 lbs on it. I'm not some retard. I'm talking small parts. Even some name brand parts go cheaper on there and some people want to pay more. I wouldn't put faith in stuff I knew would fail. I'm just saying some people have a budget and this might help them a little. We all love are cars but I'd rather invest my hard earned money where it counts and not on a tiny part that isn't beneficial to my project

My motto is you gotta pay to play. If you really plan on keeping your car for awhile it's better off to buy quality parts the first time that last. Rather than shitty parts that won't function well and break on you in a matter of weeks.... Spend your money right the first time.

Sounds like you're trying to justify not doing things right the first time. This thread really isn't helping anyone. To top it off there are so many knock-off parts YOU CANNOT LIST THEM ALL because they are unbranded crap. So if you somehow thought this would become a resource you need to think again.

Yeah I see that if u buy crap u get crap. I'm getting crap for this post lol. Maybe I should Chang what I'm trying to say. Maybe a after market part performance review. That's more what I'm looking for. Not all parts r the same. Myself and probably many others would rather not send Money on parts that break or have problems.

Actually, it's been my experience that people already know what the better parts are. How deep they're pockets are, or are not, is the issue.

If you buy knock-off parts that you have no idea how, or what, they're made of, you're just asking for problems. Why take the chance?

Very first post....and you are vouching F1 clutches. Damn, I need a drink. Haha

ACT, Clutch Masters, Competition Clutch, Exedy...those are top-notch clutches. F1 on the other hand...is as worthless as those clutches from Advance Auto.

Defend your position. You can't just come in and say "XXXXX is the best" and not back it up. I can come back and say Exedy is the "best" and get more people to agree with me too because we use or have used Exedy and have a positive experience with them. TBH I don't recall that F1 was even a brand so I can't say that I would ever even go near one.

The thread title should be changed to "How to run crap parts and not get crap for it".

I would not make claims like this. I'm trying to say more or less it some parts are just not that important and y not save a couple bucks. People research certain parts to find out quality of what they are buying if your spending 1000 on coilovers wouldn't u like to make the right choose.

Like I said. The only knock off parts I would get put on my car would be an intake pipe with a velocity stack, a radiator, a header and for a turbo build just the charge piping. NOTHING ELSE.

You listed a no name, made in a sweatshop, ker-rap steering wheel with a straight face. I had a bullshit steering wheel and knock-off low-profile quick release in the car when I bought it. The fitment was downright awful. There was side to side movement in the steering wheel because of the quick release and when I removed it I discovered that mounting bolts had started to back themselves out. Imagine what would have happened to me down the road. And the steering wheel was also lightweight bullshit and the fake leather Netami put on it started pulling up and curling off of the wheel. I still have this stuff in a box in the garage. Every once in a while I'll pull it out to look at it.

Really? WTF do you people thinking you're getting when you purchase crap like this at 1/5 the price?
