Dented the hell out of my oil pan on h23a vtec
I had a bad start to today.. I didn't have an engine hoist to lift my new h23a vtec on to the stand so I used ratchet straps hooked to the rafters in my garage... Well one of the ratchets gave out and wouldn't you know the engine dropped onto the oil pan and dented the hell out of it and a small crack right in the middle of the dent. Took pan off hoping the pickup didn't get f@&$'d up and it did....
Does anyone know of any alternatives will fit or do I have to shell out the big bucks for a h22a4 aluminum pan and pickup

You might call Hmotors or some other engine dealer and see if they have any extra parts lying around.
I'm not sure a regular h22 oil pan will fit, you'll need the h23.

I was thinking about trying a h22a1 pan gasket and pickup some say it works on the a4 and some say it doesn't, I can't find a positive answer. But it seems that the h22a4 is the closest to my h23v but the a4 oil pan costs more than double what an a1 pan and gasket does, and I also want to make sure I have the correct size pickup so I don't have any starvation issues.. Doesn't the standard h23 pan hold less oil than a h22 one? I'm about to call Hmotors right now, I planned on calling them soon to order a euro r mani anyways
They don't have any available that they can separate from engines right now... Steve is going to see if he can figure something out, waiting for a call back.

You seem to be taking this alot better than I would lol. I would be pissed and probably sell the motor without even making an attempt. I know its a big shot in the dark but try a junk yard for a pan?
In 5 minutes of searching, I came back with the following facts from Majestic Honda.
H23A1 and H22A1 oil pans are the same part#
H23A1, H22A1, and H22A4 Oil Pickups are the same part#
That would lead me to believe, with more accuracy, that the older steel pans will work fine on your engine. You have to use a gasket, where the Aluminum pans were meant to be used with Hondabond, so keep that in mind.
Keep in mind that all of these blocks are identical, aside from the 50-55 mains change, and the different bolt locations for ATTS as opposed to a midshaft on the SH.

But I was under the impression that the h23a1 only held 4.5 quarts but the h22 holds 5. And what really threw me off was I checked autopartswarehouse.com first for a pan and pickup since they keep emailing me coupons, and it showed different pans for the h23a1 and h22a1.. And also a steel replacement a4 pan that was still ridiculously priced.... Either way I'm ordering the h22a1 oil pan, gasket, and pickup from majestic.
It's just an oil pan and pickup not worth selling the motor over, besides it clearly says on the tag on the ratchet strap "not for lifting" so all I can do is smh and dish out the $100 for a new one, now if I would have just forked out another $50 I could have just bought a hoist and avoided the problem all together
Lol it's not that big of a deal when you've gone through catastrophic engine failure a couple times and the rebuild process multiple times and watched your hard earned cash turn into expensive paper weights.
