In California, New Jersey, Philadelphia, it happens all the time, depending upon the jurisdiction and why you were pulled over. If you're in California, don't street race and get caught or you'll just get towed, confiscated, or worse, your car destroyed.

Its a case-by-case basis. Be legit, or else.

A receipt doesnt get you very far....I can "create" a receipt that says anything you want. This motor isnt stolen, I certify jkmskfk to carry 5lbs of pot and automatic weapons into school zones...etc. If you get popped for a stolen motor, the receipt might help you stay out of prison, but you are still in possession of stolen property. They would likely fine you and/or put you in jail for a few days. They are absolutely going to take your car and crush it and/or return the stolen property to the rightful owner.

You will prob get in trouble but you can sue the shop that sold you the stolen parts and most likely have it cleared from your record. Run all vins/part number with the pd before final purchase.

If they run the VIN and it comes up clear, you'll be fine.

But keep in mind that if you don't have the car BAR'd and you have an engine that wasn't a direct replacement for your original (a b-series in an EG, for example), you will likely get sent to the state ref to get it BAR'd. And if you fail that, you'll need to do whatever it takes to get it right to pass.
