Default 89 Si and 90 DX

I picked up a 1989 Si with a Y7 motor installed as a parts car for my 90 DX. The plan was to pull body parts off the Si to clean up the DX but with the Y7 motor and the over all body condition of the Si, I am tempted to got the other way now.

The main problem with the Si is suspension, CV's, bent wheel hub. On visual inspection all the parts look interchangeable for the DX to the Si. Are they the same front ends underneath?

The first step will be to swap out the knuckle/hub and driveshaft on the passenger side as one unit if this will work.

Thanks for any input.

Perfect . I start the swap today then.
The Si is more fun car to drive and it goes like a bat out of hell with that newer motor in it so this could end up being a great project car.

I was surprised to find the Y7 under the hood. Not sure how to check but I think it may also be the "mini me ". The intake system doesn't look like the ones in any of the pics I can find but it does match the Y8 motors.

Thanks again

Thanks

Good call. all swapped over nicely. Down side, it wants to go left hard but I am sure that is bad toe in by the looks of it.

No solenoid so its just a peppy Y7.. would not think a 1.6 would be that much better than the 1.5 in the dx.. I guess a 96+ motor in an 89 makes a big difference over the 90 with 330K on it.

Still not sure if I made the right call. Keep finding little things wrong on the Si but it is costing me nothing but time at this point.

Went to replace the upper ball joint on the driver side and found the upper control arm on the driver side is about 1 inch longer than the passenger side. No wonder it wants to turn left all the time

Don't know what this guy was thinking with this part in there... lol

Looks like it will be a full front end swap and then the shifter to remove a massive slop problem..

Good thing the parts are free
