Multiple Plenum spacers
So I have searched and cannot find any answers. Blacktrax states that their plenum spacers can be used in place of the stock iab plate, or use one on top if it.My question is, can two spacers be used in conjustion with the stock iab plate to keep some of the low tq? Or is it better to just swap out the iab plate altogether?
Should fit, but I would ask Blacktax about it; I'll bet they've tested it and could tell you what they found. You would also need custom studs or bolts since even their extended is only meant for 2 spacers.
Here are a few pics of what I am thinking. I am still unsure about what to do to the iab plate as far as creating runners, or just opening the plate up altogether. I just want what ever is going to help out most. I am ok with losing a few down low if the top end is better, unless its going to kill me completely. I am a bit confused on what is better for H22's though, more plenum volume, or runner length.

Im running the iab plate with two hollowed out and plugged(butterfly actuator rod holes) iab plates underneath it, I used some leftover studs from an old ford recall (Im a ford tech) and some collar spacers. The extra 2 inches cleared my hood but stretched the vacuum lines and coolant lines. I deleted the coolant lines and replaced the vacuum lines.
Im nowhere near a dyno so I have no before and after, but the midrange drivability and vtec crossover became very smooth and strong even without a tune. The top end falls off alittle quicker and my 1/4 times dropped by 2 tenths but that could be from lower temps (last runs of the season).
I removed one of the plates to balance the midrange and top end out abit, but my brake booster started to leak and I havent done much to the car with my engine build in progress and buying a new daily.
The new motor will have a Rosko racing EuroR mani, so I wont be revisiting this manifold until I get the h22 into an EM1 or DC2 for racing.

The longer the runner the more it helps bottom end torque. For higher rpm you would want shorter runners. I would gut the plate. Gut the plenum and cut the middle of the intake. I am planing to do this to an extra intake i have.
I did this before but had to take off one of the spacers because my esp shock tower bar wouldnt fit on it.
I dont know dyno numbers, but if I do recall track times werent as good with just one, it was a while ago, I ran that spacer. I hallowed it out myself with a dremel and plugged up the holes that remained with a cold weld.
Cool project but Im not intrested in running that spacer anymore. I think the shock tower bar is better.

Hmm. Thanks for all the input guys. So if I fixed the top section, and cut out the middle crap out of the lower half but left the runners, would 2 gutted spacers be better?
well of course they would recommend using two. they would probably recommend 3 if there was room for them. H22s have been dyno tested and I saw a few without the spacer at all and it showed the most gains. Think about the euro r manifold it is a single runner design and makes batter power.
hmm ok. i think i may test a couple setups and see how they feel. i dont have the cash for multiple dyno runs. if anyone else has input on the im porting and spacers/ no spacers say so.
