1999 Honda Civic SiR - Fake??
Hey guys, new to the forum... always read up on threads but first time actually posting one. Not sure if anyone will be able to help me, but any input is greatly appreciated!
Owned a 90 civic hatch, and currently have a 98 hatch... bone stock.
Going to look at a 1999 Honda Civic SiR (Canada) this week (equivalent to the U.S Si, except ABS, and heater mirrors) My question is, how can you tell its a real SiR? It has a b16a2 and matching tranny in it, SIR interior, SIR spoiler, no SiR rims
, all power options ect that would be stock for a SIR. The reason I am skeptical is because its a very good price..The water pump, timing belt, and head gasket were done at 180k it has 190k now. Brakes, bushings, tie rods, bearings, and ball joints are all good. Interior is mint, and exterior has a bubble starting on the classic honda rust spot (rear wheel well) I have seen many converted to look like the SiR model for sale and want to make sure this is actually a real SiR. This is what the listing says word for word :
"its time to let my sir go..love it but need somthing 4 door . car is mint no rust, motor runs great b16a2,aem cold air intake, type r cams, type r springs and retainers,dc sports header, tokiko blue struts and tein s tech lowering springs(not installed) power windows.locks, sunroof, interior is mint non smoker ,b&m short shifter,dc sports shift ****..open to offers..car needs nothing for safty"
Is the best way of telling a true SiR by vin? Vehicle Registration? What are your guys thoughts? Crawl underneath and check out front/rear anti-roll bars? Have any of you bought a clone thinking it was a real SiR/Si?
And lastly, what are your thoughts on the performance upgrades? From what I have read tokiko blue's are just a step above OEM, and the springs have mixed reviews. DC sports makes a just above average header? AEM makes a good intake, does anyone find there throttle body needs to be cleaned all the time? Anyone on here have type r internals as listed in there b16a2 head? If so does this change my compression ratio? Gonna rip the short shifter out
Got some exterior pics of the car if anyone wants to take a look?
Cheers!!! Love this forum

yes the vin should say em1. the abs pump should be in the engine bay. leather wrapped steering wheel, hole in the headrests, amber instrument lighting. but the vin should be the main concern.

it will have EM1 in it, no question. Smack that other person upside the head, if they were being serious. Right near the start - maybe within the first 5 digits. If not, then it might have EJ6 or EJ8 in it.
hey so got the vin from the guy and just to clarify for anyone wondering the vin will look like this
