Default Tips on reducing discoloration?

http://rookind.com/mbrace.html

Check out this picture of our brace. Any tips on how to reduce the discoloration of the welds on stainless? We have spent some time making them as clean as possible, but could use some feedback on any additional tips.

Can't get the pics to enlarge on my phone

Are you having trouble with them turning grey or colorful like a rainbow?

Are you using a gas lens?

We are using a cup. And the problem is the browning that extends away from the weld.

Thanks for the reply!

walter makes a kit that removes all color from stainless welds. you can also use a pickling gel.

Pickling gel.... Look into it, but also look at the negative side of pickling. I would say leave it that way it looks good.

Gas Lens, Big cup, longer post flow, if you have a pulse function use that to reduce the amount of heat you put into the workpiece. I dont think it looks bad but if you dont like coloring give those thing a try.

Definitely gonna do this. Seems like the pickling gel is going to require some brushing and everything is already at the finish i want it to be. I will test some out and see how it goes. Also part of it that is discolored has our laser etched logo on it and im worried that the acid from the pickling will damage the logo. But only one way to find out .

Hopefully at some point i can get in touch with someone locally to check out one of the Walter kits.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Bigger cup or weld in a purge chamber. When have one of those walter acid machines for removing the color from stainless. Works like magic.
