Icon2 Satin paint job, yes or no?

I'm looking to get my teg painted satin black in a month or 2 and i would like to hear from people who actually have a satin paint job about how hard they really are to take care of. I don't mind keeping up with washing it, I just want to make sure it's not gonna end up looking terrible in a few months regardless of what i do. I've found a lot about flat paint but it seems like satin should be somewhat easier to care for since it isn't quite as raw. Also, would it make too much of a difference with how the paint will set if I get it done soon or should I really wait until it's warmer outside?

Even fully catalyzed 2k with satin clear coat mars and shows dirt far more easily than a gloss job. Just keep that in mind.

No rattle cans, getting it professionally done. I just don't want to pay for disappointment. I know it'll show dirt more easily, and im willing to keep up with cleaning it, I just want to know if bug, water, and glossy spots happen as easily or look as bad as a lot of these people make it sound or if they're just too lazy or research too little to take care of it properly

You can't buff out any errors you have, or any scratches. Glossy spots look terrible. Pitting from bugs and chips is easily noticeable. Waterspots and mild bugs can be cleaned off using ammonia based cleaner, IIRC.

The matte finish is a one time paint, meaning once its sprayed your done. The blemishes that may show after being sprayed will stay, there is no fixing them. Very hard to keep up, talking washing your car by hand every two days. If you scrub certain areas the chemicals in certain soaps will be abrasive and leave light spots. For the money it would cost to spray a car matte, you could get a pretty amazing paint job that would last 10 years. If its a show car, go for it. But a daily I wouldn't. Rattle can is pretty much the same, and to fix dents, dings,or scratches there is no blending. And after about two months you will notice a significant diffrence in color.

Damn. I guess I'll just give up on it. I had to spray the new parts on my rear end or the property manager at my apartments was going to tow it and I didn't clear coat it and it's been pretty easy to keep clean so I was being hopeful. Front end would be harder though. Guess I'll go nighthawk unless anyone has some other suggestions for other black paints. thanks guys.

You could do a vinyl wrap in satin. Less worries about maintenance. It will cost a couple hundred I think.

i think satin colors look best on cars with sharp edges, primarily exotics. sometimes it looks off on cars that are more rounded

I'm thinking of going satin on my car, French Lilac, rattle can.

My car got hit by hail, $500 deductible not worth it, front end damage = all new primed front end parts, rust on roof behind windshield from a botched replacement, paint cracks from kids throwing gold ***** at my car, etc.....

I was thinking of going a few different routes;
Rattle can satin or plastic dip
Paying my friend $600ish for a proper paint job, but that just paint labor, prep work, and supplies. It would need bondo/pdr for the hail damage first
Or vinyl wrap.

Hail damage can be a PITA to remove from horizontal panels. Especially roofs.
IIRC, PDR doesn't work for most hail damage since it is general fairly sharp dents but I could definitely be wrong about that.

I'd hammer it to look the best you can, use a thick poly primer, block it good, then shoot the paint. Well, if it were ME, I'd just pay the 500$ deductible and get a shop to take care of everything (not sure how you would rather pay your friend 600$ for half the work...)

I agree with Joe, that's not a bad price for the amount of work. And dry ice works on hail damage too, risks cracking the paint but if you're going to repaint it right anyways who cares. And I would pick a color that wont make your car look like an easter egg... lol

I had PDR done before on hail damage. I went to the shop before I had front end damage and asked if they can do a respray on the car by counting some of the damage as non PDR and just repainting some sections. unfortunately I cant do such a thing because the estimate would make my car total it out at this point.

Anyway, the first time they did PDR and didn't paint anything. The damage this time is the same.

I was thinking of using said polymer myself and just finding some cheap $100 paint job. My car has too many dents and I really dont have the money to return it to proper form, that's why Im thinking of wrapping it or using something like plastic dip

If you are going to poly prime and block, put better paint on it. You'll understand why when your arms ache from blocking. It isn't easy, at all.

I'm glad that your hail damage was repairable via PDR. Perhaps it is because the sheet metal is so thin on these hondas. I saw considerable hail damage on an older chrysler (it DESTROYED the cloth top and put hard hail dents in the rather hefty sheet metal.) It wasn't repairable by PDR, ended up replacing the hood and trunk, bondo/polying the fenders and replacing the top.

explains why my friends supercoupe had to have its hood and drunk replaced and polymare, could not do dentless on it from hail.

you will have a hard time maintaining it.. tried it a couple of times. I have a paint shop here in the Philippines. We already tried matte silver / matte white and black.. If you're gonna use it everyday.. forget it
