Default Del Sol - Raceland Coilovers

Hey everyone,

I am currently looking for a new set of coilovers for my Del Sol and am interested in Racelands. I have a set of them on my VW MK1 Rabbit and really like them. I used my VW as a daily driver and a weekend racer. The ride was hard, but comfortable and it allowed me the adjustability to run all of my sets of tires.

I have been emailing back and forth with Raceland about designing a set of coilovers for the Del Sol specifically is there is enough interest.

Pleae post to this thread if you are interested in a full set of coilovers for around $300-400.

There website is racelandus.com if you want to check them out.

I do not work for Raceland and am not trying to get a group buy together, but rather trying to get a good brand, in my opinion, to make products for our cars. If you have any questions please let me know.

Joe

Moved thread to suspension forum.

OP: Do what you want. Most members on this forum aren't very receptive to cheap parts. If you've had good luck with them in the past, you know better than most people do. I am part of the "bandwagon" that encourages people to be patient and buy established, good products the first time.

Lots of us have wasted a lot of time and effort buying cheap, or unsatisfactory parts over the years. This is why the vocal few voice their opinions against cheaper alternatives.

$300-$400? You would really trust your car with $300 worth of dubious suspension on it? I'll take three of what you're smoking.

Show me the R&D. Show me the track tested performance record. Show me the manufacturing facilities. Show me the reputation of the company with a long history of producing quality components. I would NEVER put that **** on my car because someone comes in here and says "I like them". As if that was a ringing endorsement. Frankly speaking those are aimed and undercutting the prices of the other knock-off competitors and marketed toward people that are too broke to afford real suspension and shouldn't be modifying cars in the first place. Get real.

And you only get the choice of 300f/250r spring rates?

grumblemarc,

I will show you some engineering data if they decide to make coilovers for the car, but if you would like a bunch of useless data off of other vehicles I can probably provide some. These are not top of the line racing coilovers and most of your suspension parts for under $1000 are not either. These are all around products that are good for daily drivers and maybe weekend warriors.

I understand some of your critisisms, but ask you to show me that information for the other brands in the market around the same price range. I would rather see people purchase a decent brand that has put time into engineering their products than have people purchase crap from ebay.

The spring rate question, I have no idea what the answer is because I do not design suspension products. My guess is that if there is enough interest then we will be able to find that information out.

To say you will never put that on you car is fine, I understand, but what I dont understand is why you think that it is necessary to not look at other options. Do I put racelands on my pure racecars, no, but on my dailys, yes. I wont even put kw's on my racecars.

Give people a chance and maybe something will come of it, but if you never give them a chance than everyone pays the price.

Yes I do like them on my VW, but this is a Honda forum, so I spared everyone the details and went with what people here wanted to here because a VW is not a Honda.

I am a powertrain engineer for a major automotive manufacturer and build their racecars along with my own. I race almost every weekend, year round. I apoligize for trying to give a company the opportunity to expand their products because it seems like you know more information than me. Thanks

Joe

So what's the difference between Racelands and Rokkor, Vmaxx or NNR coilovers? These are all in the same price range. They all look similar if not identical. Their websites even seem to be similar (the Vmaxx site is perpetually incomplete).

Only the super cheap or the super broke will be considering these.

in the OP's defense - being a VW owner myself (82 Caddy) the VW community damn near swears by these coilovers as being the best "entry" suspension out there. there are 1,000's running them, and you rarely hear an issue... never have run them personally though - i went with KW...

BUT - as a Honda owner as well - i agree with the thoughts so far in this thread. the cheap stuff sucks, and do you really want to risk it?

save up, and buy the "good stuff" only once.

That's what I'm saying. They make these for Hondas so I don't get the gist of the whole post. I hate Del Sols but is the suspension different on them?

other then springs rates which I am sure are diferent due to how heavy those damn things are, no.

Almost everything, if not everything suspension related is the same as a 92-95 civic.

What would be the difference between the EG kit and the Delsol kit? I'm pretty sure the spring rate would be exactly the same since these guys don't have a R&D department.
