1996 honda civic DX, the speedo bounces at 20mph no matter what speed you travel. does this sound like a speedo problem or the speed sensor on the trans? any help appreciated. thanks

 

also, number 15 fuse is fine and the D4 light does not blink, check engine light not on... im leaning towards speedo being bad, but would like to hear input before i go buy a used one thanks

 

Your distributor is about to go.

If it is missing or shuddering change out the chip inside the dis, I think its called ecm.

 

The distributor doesn't have anything to do with the speedometer, it judges what rpm your engine is at. To the original poster. From what you described it sounds like your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) Does it bounce around erratically? or does it just get stuck at 20mph?

my Speedo gets stuck at 20mph but it bounces a little bit. Sometimes it works. I’ve changed the speed sensor 3 times but it hasn’t helped. What else could be the problem??

I have the same issue with my 95, I've changed the VSS and am on my 3rd cluster. I've even re-soldered the contacts inside, it helps for about 30 minutes then gets all whacky. I have a borked up wire somewhere or a crusty connector.
