My excellent running 95 Accord has a weird rattling noise at about 1500 RPM.

Moderate throttle, right when tranny is about to shift.

Sounds just like main bearings are going !!

In neutral, if held at same RPM you can also hear it.

However, heavy accelleration, or hard revs in neutral..nothing !!

Wonder what could be rattling ??

Obviously if mains were going...if would be heard all the time...right before explosion !!

Anyone have had this noise ??

 

Oh, fun, noises over the net.......your "main bearings" are my valve lash or cracked exhaust manifold....but I can't hear it.

 

I don't think you could describe main's going bad as "rattling" sound. Usually a knocking sound is associated with the main bearings.
