Default Newbie

Im new to imports in general. I chose honda because they're extremely reliable, easy to work on, and they make good power. I am however, used to working on V8's. Mopar specifically. Im trying to get a 90 da ls sedan. Any help/suggestions appreciated

Uhhh, count your money see what you can afford. look on craigslist and buy what you can afford. money is the name of the game. its just like buying any other car. dont buy a piece of ****. dont buy a car that doesnt run. dont buy a car that cant pass inspection. dont buy a car that you immediatly have to start fixing things. dont buy a car that leaks fluids. dont buy a car that makes loud noises while you drive. dont buy a rust bucket. dont buy a car that is missing parts. BUY A CAR THAT IS 100% STOCK.

Buy stock

Avoid ads that say 'its a fun car'

Buy off of an old lady

Buy a 5 spd

Bring a compression tester

Check for oil in the coolant

Don't buy off of people who are ignorant to mechanics, oil changes are necessary

Take it for a test drive, check the brakes.

Ask them why they are selling

Buy a car that is uninsured (they already replaced it), these are usually cheap because they just want to get rid of it, and they arent using it.

Make sure the car has passed inspections recently

Turn the key and make sure that the CEL comes on for 2 seconds before you crank it. The bulb might be out

THats all I can think of.

Also another thing that ive noticed generally indicates that a ricer never owned it is the ad will generally brag about the gas mileage because thats what old people car about...money in their pocket.

The car Im buying is from a friend of mine. The motor is quiet and strong. the 5 speed shifts like butter through every gear (up and down). all stock. I trust this guy not to screw me as he is a really honest guy. He is actually selling it so that he can fix his EK Hatch (spun a rod bearing). What i really want to do with the car is put few more ponies in it while Keeping or even improving the fuel mileage, as 9mpg out of my Chrysler Cordoba is breaking me! lol

I had a 1964 Plymouth Valiant with a 225 L6. I was able to do a bit of light head work and put a small cam in it and squeeze 30mpg out of it compared to the 18-24 from the factory. apples and oranges i know, but that is what i hope to be able to do with this ls B18. possible or not?
