Default 09 civic hybrid BUY or PASS

Thinking about buying a 09 civic hybrid. It has 70k miles. Asking $11,900 I dont know what I should look out for being its a hybrid. Is there something on the dash to indicate battery life? How is the CVT trans and so on? Any input would be great thanks HT

I would pass on it, simply because you can get the same gas mileage out of a ordinary civic without being a hybrid.

You could probably get a very nice one owner lx or ex for less.

As a Honda Tech I replace IMA Hybrid batteries weekly. Lol I would pass due to the fact these battery commonly fail right when the Warranty expires. The cheapest one I've seen this far is $2800. And upwards. They are Heavier, Lower , and have a higher maintenance cost due to CVT fluid and 0w-20 Oil

Weekly seems to be quite an exaggeration........

And CVT fluid and 0w-20 isn't exactly breaking the bank difference from ATF and 5w-20.....

Personally I would pass, buy a DX or LX with a manual and get similar mileage with no expensive batteries to replace.

I agree. Although the manual will cost less in the short-term, the auto won't likely need any expensive transmission work done in the near future... Whichever you prefer to drive is probably best.

Thanks for the advise everyone! After posting this thread I did a little digging of my own and saw the problems people are having with the hybrid. Such as the batteries, the new data down loads. People saying there mpg dropped after they have gotten the new software update. ETC ETC
So, for a few weeks I thought about getting a regular civic. I decided on a EX auto coupe. And found one last Saturday. Picked up a Graphite gray 07 EX Auto coupe. 70k for $11300. It was the 4th coupe I had (tested) driven. Ive been pretty happy with it.
