2000 DC2 bloows main fuse unless battery is reversed
First time I've ever seen this. I was checking out a friends 2000 gsr today, attempting to diagnose it, it was throwing a 20 & 41. i noticed for some reason the battery was hooked up backwards, + was grounded to the chassis and - ran the the starter and fuse box. When i switched the battery around the fuse box popped, I opened it up and the main 100amp fuse was replaced with a jumper wire which melted when i switched the terminals. I had no idea that the car would even start and function with the polarity reversed but the only way it would start and not burn the main fuse was if the terminals were reversed. Other than the terminals being reversed at the battery i cannot find anything else out of the ordinary. Has any body else ever seen this or know what the cause could be?
i have seen a person in the past put a battery on a charger backwards and reverse the polarity of the battery ( they can be charged the wrong way ) .. but that still wouldnt explain how it got hooked up backwards .. unless the dumbass who charged it backwards realized what he did .. the car we got it that the person had charged backwards fried just about everything computer related in the car ( 08 z06 ) .. computers are made to absorb electrical shock in 1 direction of current flow .. if you hook them up in the other direction bad **** happens .. check the polarity of the battery go from there .. fyi if there is a dead short in either power supply wire it will cause the main fuse to pop
Car came to me hooked up backwards and i had never seen anything like that work before. If the battery could be charged backwards and the polarity be reversed thats probably what happened. I have never heard of that, but the harness hasnt been hacked and the only things out of the ordinary were the terminals and the main fuse being replaced by the jumper. Thanks for that info element600rr, I'll swap the battery out and see if that fixes the problem.
Hold the phone haas. You said it worked before. So why in the world are you going to swap the battery out when it clearly was working fine the way it was. Sometimes you run across things that don't make sense but work and you just have to let them be
