2004 Acura TL Base Transmission Problem
Not sure what's going on with it, but I started it yesterday morning and when I tried to take it out of park the shifter wouldn't budge. I had to use the manual override or w/e that is next to the shifter to get to halfway work for the day. Once it is in drive the car shifts and drives perfectly, however it will not go past neutral w/o using the manual release/override to go back into park. I dropped the car off this morning at the local honda dealership and they have already replaced the brake switch thinking that would fix it and it hasn't. Now at this point I'm pretty frustrated and I did find out that my wife spilt Big Red after slamming on the brakes the night before last, but I'm having some trouble linking Big Red to the gear shifter sticking in park or drive/neutral.
update: I was informed by the dealership that the Big Red spill damaged the Solenoid on the side of the shift assembly and that the entire shift assembly is going to have to be replaced as it can be taken out of and put back into park w/o applying the brake. When I took the car in it shifted while driving fine and now drive won't even work I'm having to manually shift it and it's throwing an engine code while the drive flashes constantly and the manual light stays luminated. After sitting in the service managers office for 20mins they will not take any claim to it as the Big Red spill was the initial problem...Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
do some research, especially on acurazine.com I read a post from someone on there who had the same problem. I think they were able to just replace the solenoid and they were fine.
this is a real common problem we see with spilled liquids in the **** console.
their is a shift interlock and manual shift solenoids and when the liquid spills on them they will short out and also not move cause the syurp causes the pins to not move correctly.
I do about 5 of these every year.
