OT: So after seeing the specs on the New S4.....
And how its NA and Heavier than the previous Body style
I Noticed the new RS6
0-62 in 4.7 seconds, 4.2L V8 Biturbo, 450HP
Coming to the USA in Summer 2003

ENGINE
"High-tech lightweight aluminium V8, displacing 4.2 litres. Five-valves for each cylinder, forty in all. Twin turbochargers. High lift cams with hydraulic lifters. Variable magnesium intake manifolds. The latest in smart electronic engine management. Output of 450bhp at just 5700 rpm. Torque of 560 Nm from 1950 to 5600 rpm. Searing acceleration. Standstill to 62mph in 4.7 seconds. Standstill to 124mph in 17.6 seconds. Top speed 155pmh (electronically limited)."
BRAKING
"365mm front discs and eight piston fixed callipers. 335mm single piston floating calliper at the rear. Ventilated front and rear 'floating' discs made of composite material for greater dissipation of heat to maintain maximum braking performance for longer without brake 'fade'. Combined with ABS for shorter stopping distances under greater control. Drilled brake discs illustrated are an optional extra."
SUSPENSION
"A specially developed shock absorber system that counteracts vehicle body roll and pitch. Using diagonally connected hydraulic shock absorbers additional damping force is generated via a central valve when cornering or braking. The effect is to keep the car on a much flatter plane when dynamic driving is required without sacrificing ride comfort."
Thoughts? Opinions?

I've already seen an Rs6 in person. All I can say is WOW. It looks like an A4 on the juice. Body styling is aggressive but yet subtle. The car I saw had DTM plates so I assume a manufactur test car. The only downside I see is the only option for a gear box is a automatic with steering wheel controled upshifts and downshifts. Welcome the new M5 KILLER.
Damn mike the new s4 kinda sux. I guess we gotta stick wit the old ones and get some K04 turbos

I love RS6 (both sedan & avant)! Go to your local book store and look for Audi official magazine, the car is featured in there.
bi-turbo V8 must rip!

The RS6 only comes in a automatic. I'm sure it's nice and all, but I could not give up a manual Tranny. just get a older S4 and do the chip turbo thing. Once my warranty runs out thats what I plan on doing with mine. 350HP, 350FT/LBS here I come!!!!
EVO has a fantastic write up of the RS6....

"This is truly a mighty engine, mightier even than those of the Jaguar S-type R and the BMW M5 which can muster just 400bhp apiece. Blip the throttle under load and, on its way to the virtually lag-free release of revs and thrust that is the kickdown, it roars like Tony the Tiger in need of another Frosties fix. As you accelerate to, then through, the 3000rpm mark it takes on a deep beat an octave below the usual V8 throb, and sounds like a close-quarters encounter with some helicopter blades."

They are nice, however, there will be less than 1000 brought to the US with a price tag of $82,000
.....it better kill an M5.
I wonder if you could retrofit the RS6 biturbo on the S4, now that would be one fast family cruiser!
here's some pics of the S4:

Kill it? For 82 US grand, it had better kill the M5, chew it up, and spit out spare parts.
This car will be maily for true Audi enthusiasts.
As for the S4 I think your right George, no aerodynamic function at all.
The RS6 is a beats, MTM suposedly has already tuned one. It all depends what you want, if a slush-box is your thing that's great, unfortunaly even w/the paddles the auto is nothing like a Ferrari F1 or BMW SMG gear box
The exclusiveness of the RS6 far surpasses that of the M5 or E55 and even though IMO the auto falls short, the rest of the car is sickening(in a damb good way) Recaro seats, massive brakes ext. However, for comparison around the Hockenheim circut the new RS6 and M5 take the exact time(to the second) but the M5 bests the RS6 through the slolom by like 6mph. Anyhow the quattro AWD sure is a plus for those who will venture into the snow in their new 82+k auto. Well the new supercharged E55 will soon top the RS6 and then BMW will again take the title back w/the forementioned V10 M5. If you have the scrill what more could you ask for out of a vette eating for door.

I'd rather buy an M5 and slap a turbo on it for $86000. RS6 is not even close to being worth that much IMO.
The projected trade-in value of that car 36 mos. from now is $36,900 OUCH!!!
You see, Audi's don't hold their value in the US market, therefore it's wiser to lease them then own them, unless of course you're a collector of rare, fast cars.
And M5 on the other hand has about 60% residual value after (Audi 's average mid to high 40%) so even if you paid over sticker (lets say $75000) a 36 month old M5 has a trade-in value of $43,200 and it stickered ten grand cheaper than the RS6. You guys do the math and you'll see it's a very simple projection.

Yeh for about 30K ontop of a brand new M5, but I guess if you want to give that viper driver a look a surprise when your next to him it's worth it(Last I saw the Dinan M5, all motor did 0-60 in 4.1, not sure about the 1/4).
Another factor is that the preliminary testing has shown that the RS6 has blistering 0-60 times (thanks to Quattro) but posts lackluster low 14 second 1/4 mile times with low 3 digit traps, leading me to believe that a bone stock M5 will flat-out smoke an RS6 in any roll-on acceleration contest.

I have also see the weak 1/4 mile times of the RS6, I was led to belive that this might be a typo, given the amout of HP and torque the car should be much faster than that. Very confusing
