help! gsr head damage could it be fixed? (pics)
i know this is a dumb question but could this be fixed? if so what would i need to do to get it fixed? its a 2000 gsr head bone stock i bought it off a friend for real cheap and i would like to know if this could be fixed please help thank you
whats the estimate on fixing it?? i mean i would like to fix it if it can be fixed but if its not worth fixing and just buy another head then i guess i have no other choice
i couldnt tell you that, you would have to go to a machine shop, they are gonna have to grind it down, weld it back up and then remachine it to match the shape of the original chamber, your looking at a pretty penny
damn thats not good will im taking it to a machine shop tomorrow maybe theirs a chance i can save this head sucks to see it like this :/ lets just see what the guys says.
That doesn't look too good and I can tell you right now that it wont be worth it to fix it. It's gonna be pretty expensive I can assure you.
At a top name shop, I paid about $1200 to rebuild my head included: valve job, ferrea valves, valve springs (not part of the price), hot tanking, disassemble and assemble.
I can tell you by experience this head will require more work than that.
Like others have said, you're better off getting a used one.

The valves dont look too badly bent, but if they are, it likely cracked the valve guides as well. I dont know about $1200 for a basic assembly job, but you are looking atleast $500 to repair that. It has to be disassembled, welded, milled, have the combustion chamber cleaned up, jet tanked and reassembled. Then you still have the bent valves and possibly damaged guides to deal with. You'd be better off selling that off and buying a non-damaged one.
i had a head in similar shape didnt cost much to repair, i think maybe $100 the most i think but that was my machinist so.. id say just keep it for any parts still salvagable, you can find a b series head for less than $150 bare.
Valve seats look trashed. Lots of $ to fix something like that. What was the cause of that? I had a similar experience with a junk2, err.. uh.. Skunk2 throttle body. Butterfly screw backed out and did more damage than that.
what did your friend do to that head anyways?
u might be better off buying another head.. i also spent over 1200 at a machine shop for head work well minus the $600 p/p

Ive seen worse...after a nice mill some of the damage on the surface should clean up...Get some new seats and have them sand and fill in the divits and youre golden.
op i would just find a bare gsr or b16 there so cheap if you search.
That head can be fixed but you can Never trust it to be the same CC as the rest of the combustion chambers.
Seeing what some of you will pay for head work make me LMFAO.
getting my head done right now. new valves, new giudes, shaved the works and it's only going to cost me $275.
hell the last head i had done got a P&P and it only ran me $450

The one singled-out valve suggests he dropped a valve.
Its kind of funny how people are replying but nobody knows wtf it is. Take it to a machine shop, they are the experts. All we can tell you is where to go.
Good luck! (how much you pay for it?)

I have it in a box somewhere. I didn't even bother contacting them about it. I figured they wouldn't be the kind of people that would do anything for me and looks like I was right. It was a 70mm b-series tb. I replaced it with a professional products for 1/3 of the price.
