Hey I just finished a swap in my brothers eg and it ran perfectly fine... On a stock un tunes JDM b16 ecu.. not tuned nothing but I told him he needs to add a resistor pack box.. or obd2 fuel injectors cuz will burn up his obd1 injectors... He took the easy way and swapped the injectors instead of looking for which wire goes where and buying the box and extra wires and tape and wiring it up...
Ok so we swapped the injectors and rewired them to obd2 plugs cuz they came with pigtails.. got all happy with job well done but now it don't run...???
Once he starts it, it runs for 5-10 seconds then dies... BUT if he applies gas just a tiny bit and any period of the 5-10 seconds it dies... It's his only car and he needs it for work ASAP..
I have an h22 swapped eg too and mine runs perfectly fine, don't know y his is acting up...

So basically it ran great, swapped obd1 fuel injectors to obd2 with obd2 plugs and now it won't run for more than 10 seconds.. all wires were the same colors on harness same as plugs so we just swapped it right over.. simple..

Anyone had a problem like this before?? YES I did search a lot and even on prelude forums and googled it but no match to thus problem...

I think you screwed yourselves. You know it's not wired up correctly and we're supposed to come up with a workaround to doing the job right? If the injectors require a resistor box and you don't run one you could fry the ECU. Maybe you already have.

Yeah but if u run obd2 injectors u don't need the resistor pack right?? It ran great, swapped the injectors in 15 minutes and now it won't stay started... How will that fry the ecu?

Plus if the ecu would be fried.. y does it start normally and idle good.. just dies after 5-10 seconds or anytime I press the gas pedal..???

 

You said you swapped to OBD2 only AFTER you messed up in the first place correct? That might be long enough to fry the injector drivers but not the whole ECU.

 

Messed up? I didn't mess up on anythin... It ran great on obd1 injectors without the resistor pack, we basically only started it and test drove it to the stop and back, but I told him to add the pack or swap injectors not to fry anything... So he drove it into the garage, swapped the injectors with pigtails within 15-20 minutes and went to start it and it first had to crank like 5 turns before it started, I'm guessing because it didn't have fuel pressure and all, then it ran for 5 seconds and died... He started it again which started after couple turn overs and gave it gas as usual to rev it up to see if gas was the problem. As soon as he gave it gas it choked and died.. now it will start fine and run for 10 seconds and die..
Main question is y does it die when u give it gas..??
Obd2 injectors don't go well with obd1 p30 ecu??
He will get an h22a base map on there today and see if that solves a problem...
Then change the TPS sensor which I think might be the problem...
But y all thus after only swapping injectors??

I know all that about injectors... In other words that guy explains that obd1 injectors r peak and hold and require a resistor pack to run then in order to avoid damage to the ecu, injectors, and/or resistor pack .. or as Honda did, use obd2 which r saturnated injectors and don't require a resistor pack to run them..
That's exactly y I told my brother to run the obd2 saturnated injectors...
With the new injectors the car won't stay started for more the 10 seconds and die when giving throttle...
How is that confusing?
I know how h22s run, I did one myself with obd2 injectors and it still runs great.. I'm trying to see y it won't stay started not explanations on how the obd1 and obd2 injectors works... Obd2 don't need resistor pack and it doesn't even reflect on how the car starts or idles unless u actually drive the car on obd1s without it..

 

I say you messed up when you ran the OBD1 injectors without the resistor box.
Are the new ones even spraying right now? Fuel, spark & air. That's all you need. So which one are you not getting?

 

I got them all cuz it starts and runs but only for 10 second and I can start and run it for 10 seconds all day... Starts easy and idles good, just chokes out of the blue..

 

Sounds like ECU to me.

 

I'll try to switch the tps cuz I got a spare one and get another ecu and change the base map to h22a and then see what happens cuz I'm our of ideas..
I took half the motor apart, cleaned everything, new gaskets and seals.. still the same problem.. not a bit different

 

Seems like a ground issue,did you check your grounds to make sure that all 4 of them are there,then if that can't fix the issue got to go backwards and try anothere ecu or go back to the 1st set of injectors,seems like a stupid issue that gots u stuck stop smoke a cig drink a beer and rethink.

 

Check the most common things,like the dizzy etc....

 

How is it any of those things if it runs for 10 seconds each time only?

 

Problem is it starts... If it didn't start or idles bad, that's easy... Either my injectors or ecu might be failing.

Anyways was out of town for a while.. I talked to a guy who done an h2b swap and he said somethin about programing the ecu to run the JDM b16 obd2 injectors on obd1 h22aa swap to avoid resistor pack ..??? Y so? Is that even true? I always thought all b-series and d series r the same besides the obd1-obd2 part....

 

Hey sorry totally forgot to update thus thread on the news... I hate it when ppl post a problem and then solve it but never post the solution!!!!..
Anyways....
Apparently I was right, obd2 use a different code fir the return signal to the ecu. So we swapped the obd1 h22 injectors back on and added a resistor pack and it idles even better than before..

If u need help with a similar problem or in detail a specific part of the swap u don't understand like wiring in the resistor pack or whatever... Let me know and ill do my best to help u out..

What kind of car did u get the resistor box from or what type

 

b16 injectors are 240cc
h22 are 290cc and jdm h22 are 345cc

are you sure its actually running right, or is it running lean as **** from having 240cc injectors.

 

Well if the motor swap is obd1 and ecu is obd1 and you wired in obd2 injectors you need to delete the resistor pack
