ready 4 a rebuilt
96 gsr 200k miles. Still run hella strong but have to rebuilt my baby. Lookin to turbo it. I live in sacramento,ca and overhere we have smog issue. Was wondering if i can turbo it and still pass smog? Want to bore the block to 2.0 or higher but dont know if i can pass smog. Plus any advice would be good. Want to keep on the daily driven sleeper side.
i cant see why not if your talking boost, i run my evo catless and almost a straight thru muffler and it passes, just use the spacer on your o2 sensor so you dont get a CEL and with a good tune it "should" pass..my evo puts out lower emissions then my other 2 cars
I think some companies sell carb legal turbo kits btw.
you've obviously never done a smog in ca

^^ no it doesn't, cali is the only state with their type of emissions and automotive laws, in the country, buncha tree huggin poosies..
Any real mechanic can tell the difference between a test pipe and a real cat lol

my car is turboed i run a 2.5 inch exhaust and a magnaflow cat with 450cc injectors i pass with flying colours because my car runs like stock till after about 3500 rpm because my tuner mapped it that way and should do yours the same the only thing that doesnt pass is that i have the valve cover and pcv venting to atmosphere but i just go to a oil changer place and they have no idea what theyre looking at once they pop the hood anyway.
yea but a set up just like whiterice has will work in CALIFORNIA....its all in the tune..just take it to a small oil change shop when u get ur inspection and ur set
well run the cat then and use a catch can instead of venting stuff to atmosphere and put the dump tube back into the exhaust, theres no law that says a turbo is illegal u just have to follow their rules is all i cant imagine not being able to pass a legit test with these things and a tune with an almost stoock map at low rpm
also where i live if u change the displacement the car then becomes "hot rodded" and they have a baseline for all hot rods which is really high, you'll be testing like a carbureted 8 cyl, my buddys h22 eg turbo passes with no cat, prolly not the same california but a call to the dmv wouldnt hurt.
