What would you do w/ 94 Del Sol w/ 260,000 miles?
Hi everyone. I own a 94 DelSol EG2 VTEC. I want to put some money into my car but i'm not sure if it's the right decision. I'm nowhere near as intelligent as yall are when it comes to cars. My car slowly burns oil(smokes when i get on it too hard). What would you guys do? Wait until my motor gives in? Or are there things that i can do to improve my engine w/o buying a new one?
do you plan to race it and beat on her a bit? or just a fun dd? but rebuild or swap!
dont wanna put too much money in if its gonna blow up on you, unless your rebuilding it. or start getting a swap motor ready for when she goes down.

I am in the same boat, tough decision. Basically, I just add oil, but it does add up. Determine what shape is the rest of the car? if everything else is decent then do a swap, rebuild can be costly unless you do it yourself, you will need pistons, valves everything to do it right.
Id judge the rest of the car.....I mean D series motors are cheap, however thats just a small peice of the puzzle. Hows the suspension? the trans? the exhaust, yada yada....
If everything is good on the car except the motor burning a tiny bit....id get a swap. Rebuilding an engine isn't as cost effective as just swapping with low miles jdm...
If money was no issue...K series swap, lol

Yeah the rest of the car is in amazing condition. No dents or dings except slight hail damage on the hood only, has high quality suspension, everything works ( except radiator fan went out recently? maybe a fuse?) Exhaust is Apexi catback i believe just a little too loud for me. Have to push the clutch in every time i see a cop lol. Honestly, everything besides under the hood is in top condition. Sure there are things i could improve, but overall its good. How much am i looking at if i do a motor swap?

It burns under load, so that be valve stem seals. If it's rings, it would be under high RPMs, but it does have 260k miles...
You said it's a Del Sol VTEC, so it has a B16. If it were me, I'd just find another motor and sell the old one to help subsidize the cost. B16s are pretty cheap. Or you could put a B18C1 in, or really any B series. You're looking at anywhere from maybe $500 for a CRV or LS engine, to $4k for a higher end JDM ITR engine. Also budget a couple hundred for a new clutch, though Amazon has them cheaper usually. Do the timing belt, tensioner and water pump at the same time, looking at $250 or so maybe from Honda.
you can rebuild fairly cheap, but you will be out of a car for a month at least. Machine shops usually take at least 2 weeks to do anything. And something always goes wrong, so you'll have to allow some time for the inevitable issues that come up. A swap you could just have completely ready, start on a Friday afternoon and get it done in a day or less if you have someone experienced with you.

If you got a B16 motor in your del Sol i would just rebuild that engine with OEM parts or aftermarket parts whatever your plans are with your car.DD or race toy.
This one's easy. You've already got a b-series in there.

That sounds like a price i'm willing to pay. Anyone agree with this? Btw what is a qsd h2b kit?
By the time you buy the motor - h2b kit - mounts - and all other parts needed for this you will be spending around 2500-3k
H2B - Where you convert the H motor to fit a B series transmission.
where did u find a H22a longblock for $1100??
Yeah, I don't want a fast, quality daily driver either. Good point.
Yeah idk what i was thinking. So is the $2500-$3000 the price for just the parts? There's no way i'd be able to accomplish this project. I'd have to take it to get it done.

If you have a good shop you should be able to get it done for your budget. Remember, $1,100 for the engine and $750 for the kit and extra for miscellaneous stuff that always pops up. I had shop install an engine for me for $500 cash.
