Default OCTANE Booster Safe to use?

hello, in my country Malaysia. RON95 and RON97 are two common and the only available fuel. The fuel RON97 raise crazy by government the price about 87 cents USD per litter while 61 cents USD per litter for RON95. So I think to RON95 + Octane Booster may equal to RON97 petrol? I know type R engine minimum RON97 otherwise engine knocking... So if I pump RON95 + OCTANE BOOSTER will it help and is it safe most importantly?bcos I just overhaul my engine 2-3 months ago just wanna keep it clean. Thank you

octane booster+ron 95 MIGHT get you to ron 95.2

you have a type-r engine and it requires ron 97, you got to pay to play...

If you can't afford to get the proper fuel for it you might want to just sell it. Trying to get around your financial problems by putting in octane booster and hoping to somehow get the proper octane rating your engine requires just doesn't seem wise.

ron 95 plus a bottle of octane booster everytime is probably going to end up being more expensive then just throwing 97 in there.

or sell it. this is not a cheap hobby.

doesn't the gsr have a knock sensor. he will be fine to do it some but i would not do this regularly. the knock sensor will sense ping and retard ignition to accept the fuel.

The knock sensor on these engines are not very effective. They're too sensitive supposedly.

You can try running E85, it's over 100 octane (using the US RON/MON calculation). But, you'll have to retune and it has to flow 30% more, so you'll need bigger injectors.

You could add toulene/toulol to the fuel since that's what's in most of the octane boosters. There are tables online that show how much to add to amounts of fuel to increase the octane certain amounts. It's available in the paint section, but it may be more expensive than just getting 97 octane in your country. Plus you'll have to carry it around, risking leaks causing damage, fire hazard, exposure to the toxic fumes, brain damage, just forgetting to put it in and blowing up the motor...

It would be more expensive doing it your way. Maybe you need to buy an electric car if a few pennies each fill up is going to break you.

For instance. Here, the price between premium and midgrade gas is only 12 cents a gallon on average. For 10 gallons that a measly $1.20 per fillup. A bottle of booster costs between $3-$5. No brainer.

In comparison your price per 10 gallons is only a $2.60 difference so if if a bottle of booster costs more than that then you're not really saving any money now are you?

"Cheap and nasty, Expensive and cheerful" from Top Gear.

Well because is my daily ride if is a weekend car I wouldn't mind that. I need to travel a lot so is kinda heavy load to me for my low wedges. Yeah I admit I'm a poor guy... I thought honda type r concept design for lower cost car for people can't really afford a NSX. But you get a FF car drive that similar NSX performance :-)

Yes they are crap. Looks like you're looking for magic mods and cheap Ebay fixes like horespower chips for a lot of things. Give it up.

Actually, it's a difference of $9.84 for every 10 gallons, and more to the point, it's an increase of 43%. If I could cut the cost of my fill-ups by nearly a third, I'd be eager to do so. Perhaps you wouldn't seem so grumpy if you actually took the time to read the posts you're responding to.

Fox, given that you seem to be on a budget, I'll echo the advice that you consider selling the car and buying one without a "high performance" engine.

Make sure to get one of those electric turbo things and fill your tires with helium. Hell, tie balloons to your bumpers and rig a peddle powered propeller.

Don't bother dumping that crap into your tank. Sell your car, buy a moped and a full face helmet. Maybe even a cape.

Ocatane booster is crap. It's going to cost you quite a bit to even out the diference.

Put the gas your engine was meant to run it.

Is $10 really that big a deal?

Granted, I'm not a math wiz but if a difference in ONE gallon is only 26 cents then TEN gallons is $2.60. Someone school me if I'm wrong.

And even IF that is the case if you cannot float $10 then you need to get a bicycle to get to work.

He said liters in the first post, well litters, but I think he meant liters.

There is roughly 3.5 liters in every gallon.

He pays about the same per gallon as we do.

Nope. I've used many types of octane booster, never saw a diference.

I was confused at first be he went metric, to usd. Had to read it twice. He should end up around 30 ish for a tank as I do, but I don't get "premuim", so it may be a bit cheaper for him.

See above.

If the gas costs are hurting you that much, perhaps you should garage the car and buy a daily driver that gets close to 40mpg on regular gasoline.
