Default 97 Accord DX f22b2 oil leak / overheating

Hey, I recently bought a 97 Accord DX f22b2( i believe its that engine, gotta double check) about a month ago. When i bought it, it had a slight oil leak coming from behind the timing belt cover so its most likely coming from a broken seal. As of recently, the car overheats and the leak has progressed to basically a stream of oil. Today, i tried to cheaply fix the leak by adding a oil leak sealant specific for leaks behind the timing cover. It seemed to have worked at first but now it is back to how it was and my check engine light came on, then when i parked the car after a test for the leak, the car was smoking and it had the sweet smell of coolant. What am i looking at as far as fixing the car and making it reliable again as well as price? I'd prefer to do it myself so tips are welcome! :D Thanks in advance.

First off, that stop leak crap usually does more harm than good. It sounds to me like you probably bought a POS with a blown headgasket, so I'd be diagnosing that first. As for the oil leak, the only way to tell is to pull the timing cover. You may be able to just pull the upper to see what's going on.

Obviously you should figure out the problems, but my guess is in the end, your best/cheapest option will be to find a good used motor.

The leak sealant was recommended to me and i figured i could try it since it was a cheap way to at least delay the leaks in order for me to get together some cash to completely fix the problem. I only picked it up for $900 so of course its gonna not be THAT great haha. I have a friend who actually has the same exact engine as mine laying in his driveway but its missing a few important parts. i might be able to salvage some parts from mine and do the swap.

Me, I'd do the compression test....then find the source of the coolant leak....I bet you find a hose or something that is the issue....not the head gasket.

But who am I.......
