I have a 89 SI and these last few days only at night when all electrical is on (Headlights Heater Radio) i notice temp Gauge moves up and down when i drive away goes back to normal also the battery sounds like its going out in the morning battery is nearly dead just enough to start battery is 5 years old. Is it time for a new one?

I have a 90 DX with the same problem. My charging system is fine.

 

Same thing was happening to me turned out my battery ground cable was loose on one of the connections

But a battey test at autozone wouldn't kill you either

 

you guys are right in the back of my mind i keepdt thinking i have a bad gound connection i have a cheesey pepboys ground connector to my neg - post i will replace it i notice i even have static noise thru speaker with the heater on that will be my weekend project>

 

My battery was low on water and it bounced around like crazy. Added water, problem solved.

 

i had a similar problem but mine was worse. when i turned my brights on both my gas hand and my temp hand spiked out fully. also the starter turned slowly. turned out it was the main ground wire, it had corroded really badly
