Default crx brake question

I recently changed my rotors and pads on my 90 crx. I got everything for a 90 crx. Then I find out I need pads for a 94 civic dx and rotors, because the pads and rotors are smaller than the ones I had previously. whats going on here? Any input?

How do you know you need 94 civic pads? I'm not familiar with that swap. Look for a stamp on the knuckles to figure out what car they're from.

Instead of the big brake upgrade someone did a small brake downgrade?? That doesn't make much sense.

I went to auto zone, got pads for a 90 crx, but they were too small for the calipers. I needed 94dx calipers, those are bigger. Now I'm wondering if dx knuckles are like Si knuckles, hence the bigger caliper and rotor. Or are Si's even bigger? Input?
