Crome timing/map conflict??
Just wonder if anybody might be able to shed a little light on an ongoing situation I've got on my hands. My wife's '95 GSR is currently running 1.6.2 on a chipped P72, problem is I can't seem to get the base timing to corespond to the map timing. The map calls for the standard 16.5* BTDC from 0-1250rpm up to 17"/Hg, problem is, at the distributor the max I can get is maybe 5-6* with an adjustable timing light, and this is with the distributor fully advanced. I've checked, double checked and triple checked (along with 3 techs overlooking) the engine at TDC, cams line up at TDC and the ign rotor pointing at #1, but I'm still a good 10* or more retarded vs. whats commanded on the map.
So bottom line, can there be a conflict with the way Crome maps are writen vs. the way it's applied on a P72? At this point I'm looking for anything!

Yes. Didn't notice the timing lock option, i'll look for that. Don't know about the T-belt, purchased the car with a 'built' engine a few months ago.

If you don't have Crome Pro or Dealer then you have to jumper the service connector.

Yea that would explain it. I just tore the T-belt off the car, going to install a new one tomorrow and re-time everything and see how it goes. Just for giggles, I tried a straight P28 map on the car today, same results, car will see a maximum of about 5* with the distributor maxed out and the map commanding 16.5*. At this point, if the problem persists, I'm gonna see if I can either borrow someones P28 or another distributor and see what happens.
I've also seen this when the ECU is trying to compensate for idle conditions, which Crome isn't exactly great at doing. It may be an IACV issue, base timing issue, vacuum issue, or fuel delivery problem (possibly too rich or O2 scale is incorrect).
I believe one cam tooth on the GSR is 12* though, so 's probably a good thing you're starting there.
