I am curious since it is colder will honda's burn more oil?

 

Is yours? I'm sure you've owned the car longer than a year.

 

Soon as it got colder seems to burn more in my car....of course age is part of it.

Just wanted to see if others noticed it.

 

I should put this in my sig lol...My EJ1 has 300K and it does not burn oil..I guess I`m just lucky

 

What do you mean it "seems" to? If you're not using the force to keep track of oil consumption then your feeling doesn't count for much.

Do you find your self having to add more oil between oil changes? If so how much more or more frequently than before?

 

Hard to explain, the car has a bad rear main seal, so I always had to add oil, just now it seems to be worse, but when the temp really dropped to 30 or below the last few weeks. I live in NJ so it is cold.

 

so maybe the seal got worse and cracked more?

Then change the seal. One day it may go out completely. Things contract when cold.

 

I would think oil would tend to leak more when it is warmer.Cold oil is thicker than hot oil so I would think you would leak less oil in cold weather. I am guessing your seal just got worst!

 

I don't burn any more or less in the winter. Change the rear main seal.

 

Seal exspands when hot.. Just fix your oil leak first then see if it loses more oil

 

the cold could shrink the rings of your pistons a very small amount and allow more blowby but that shouldnt last more than a minute after the pistons have enough friction.

Blowby: oil seeping past the seal of the piston rings into the combustion chamber allowing oil to burn with the air/fuel mixture.

but you might need new valve stem seals or piston rings. or more things that you can google "why does my car smoke" to learn about.
